I don’t usually give bad reviews but this one just hit different. My husband and I enjoy coming to Copper Penny in Rutherfordton. I would say we are pretty regular here. We just had an experience that was very disappointing to say the least. We came in and decided to sit at the “big” bar. We were greeted by a lady that was ready for us to place a drink order. I first just as aid water so that I could take time to decide. I then, after about 5 minutes, asked the bartender if I could sample the two Oktoberfest beers. She immediately stomped off and obviously was going to have to go to the other smaller bar for the samples. I felt the tension so I went ahead and went up there to save her any troubles she was having with my request. To my dismay I got up there and she was complaining loudly to the guy that bartends up there that “some lady” had made such a request! As she sees me see her she turns 10 shades of red and tries to say no, it’s no problem to do this. I was just telling her that I was just trying to save her the trouble. After this happens I then go back to my seat at the big bar and just settle for a beer down there because I can see it pained her to go to the smaller bar. As we sit and eat our entrees she comes to us and asked if we want to close out our tab and pay because it is shift change (4ish)? I said it would be ok to just transfer it to the next person because we weren’t finished and probably want another beer. I then see that attitude arise again! She then goes over to her colleagues and they all start looking at us like we are a three headed monster. I can obviously see she is talking about us. One word of advice is if you are a server then you wouldn’t have such a nasty attitude. If you don’t like your job find another one. To the restaurant, we love this place but with this happening we will think twice to come back anytime soon. I know it’s hard to find good help but all we ask is to have a half positive attitude when we are serverws and not make us feel like we are in high school. Just common courtesy and politeness...
Read moreTried this place two times on the same day due to power being out in the lake lure region. Food was excellent both times. The French fries could possibly be the best I’ve ever had. Nice to see people not wearing masks. To comment to some of the people complaining about servers not wearing masks... you do realize the cdc just came out and said 94% of the “COVID deaths” are not truly COVID deaths. Check it for yourself. They lump all sorts of other deaths into the COVID death pile. Amazing nyc had no hearth attack deaths for months. They count people with between 2-4 comorbidity factors as COVID deaths. So granny with stage four cancer in hospice finally died but tested positive for COVID and it is counted as a COVID death not a death from cancer. Even wral.com had a recent article about numbers in nc being misreported. Short story is this... people can test positive for COVID at a level that doesn’t allow them to spread the virus so they can be positive with no ability to spread virus. And you do know the ac system circulates air throughout the building right? So u are worried about the interaction with a hostess for 6 seconds but not worried about breathing circulated air from 95% of the other patrons for an hour?? If you are scared stay home please ... or wear the mask. Both are your right. The governor has no ability to mandate how I breathe air since he is not my doctor. Amazingly testing goes up and false positives increase yet many states who are governed by republicans are doing fine with booming economies. And all the state sponsored rioting in democratic runs states is about keeping the state shut dien so it hurts TRUMP.. Wake up sheeple. There is an agenda you are participating in it. If you don’t want to eat a restaurant that fine but why cry about it and ding their rating?? You are probably the same people that wear a mask driving in a car alone or while walking outside alone. Fresh air is not our enemy people. Think...
Read moreBelow is my review from 3 years ago, when Copper penny was one of our absolute favorites. About a year ago we stopped going because on several occasions they would have multiple bartenders and yet we couldn't get a drink order let alone a food order, or could never get a drink refill. We both work in the food service industry and always tip well/above and beyond. Last week we tried copper penny again and had EXCELLENT service, so we tried again today and at first had great service, until shift change at the bar when we had already paid for initial drinks and food, but couldn't get the new bartender to pay us any attention. There were 5 people at the bar, including the 2 of us, and she never even spoke or looked at us. I put both our empty glasses on the bar mats at the edge of the bar so they were easily visible.... FORTY FIVE MINUTES LATER I finished my burger and fries with no drink because she has not once acknowledged our existence, and when we got up to leave she had the nerve to tell us to have a good day..... SO NOW YOU SEE ME AS IM LEAVING??? This is why we stopped going there a year ago, and obviously nothing has changed. You can't make money ignoring customers with empty drinks. Note: the first bartender we had was excellent and attentive. It seems to be dinner shift that changes over at 4pm that doesn't care to pay attention.
3 years ago we left a 5 star review: One of our favorites! We eat here regularly and have never had a single complaint. Food is amazing, and always quick service. Amy is an amazing bartender. Bar/dining area/bathrooms always clean and...
