As I have mentioned in the past (harp on even), dining out is about food AND vibes. The best thing I can say regarding the vibe at East Asian Cuisine is: bring your own. Because, WOW. Situation here is dire my friends. The woman at the host stand probably should consider a line of work other than one where you deal with the public. YIKES. I arrived at about 1:30pm on a Wednesday, which is an “odd,” in between time. All I’m going to say is that East Asian Cuisine might want to consider taking a little time out between lunch and dinner service. Might potentially boost morale… Anyhoo, there was a deserted, empty bar beside a dark and closed up sushi bar on the wall beyond the unwelcoming host stand. The TV was on at the bar, so I asked if I could sit there. No. Epically unhappy host began leading me across the large, center dining room, which had ALL THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF, to a row of booths along the opposite wall, where the lights were on, but not all the way up. Very dark. But! The front wall is all windows. Host began leading back into the darkest bowels, away from the windows and the light. I asked to sit near the windows where there was some light. Oh. Wait. I forgot to mention that there were 2 other diners in the entire place. Multiple empty booths at the window… She begrudgingly sat me at a booth with actual, natural light. The menu is huge and has sushi and Japanese kitchen items, plus all the American Chinese food. Which is what I was there for! There are also lunch specials. I decided to order two full sized items: Shrimp Pan Fried Noodles (mostly there are not really any descriptions on the menu, so I asked if it had veggies in it, my waiter assured me it did) and Eggplant with Garlic Sauce. Because I couldn’t resist. I. Love Eggplant. Okay, legit? Portions are enormous. And I know from huge portions. LOL Snaps to my waiter for not trying to dissuade me from ordering way too much food. It is 100% my god given right as an American to over order when I dine out. Also definitely a personal goal of mine. Every time. Food is GOOD here. Veggies are all fresh and perfectly cooked. Shrimp were HUGE and also perfectly cooked. The Eggplant was DELICIOUS. Once you’ve got high quality ingredients (which they DO here with what I had!) the thing about Chinese American food is the sauces. Your sauces need to be delicious. I only had two, the Garlic Sauce (definitely delicious) and the sauce on the pan fried noodles (I’m not sure what it’s called, but it’s more on the sweet side). My only criticism is the sheer volume of sauce on those noodles. It was BONKERS. LOL The noodles were excellent, but they’re fried crispy and then someone poured like half a gallon of sauce on them, so they were swimming and losing the crispy. Which forced me to eat them as fast as I possibly could. Honestly not the best approach. Still fun tho. Obviously, maybe, I could not finish the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce at lunch. But I did about 6 hours later at my kitchen island…

Just ordered dinner as a treat for finally being able to open after 6 long weeks. We ordered what we figured would be enough food for dinner and lunch the next day over $120 worth. As we had never been here and they are literally the only Asian cuisine open in our town, we decided to give it a try. BIG MISTAKE! We were stunned, the portions were incredibly small for the price (wouldn't have fed a child much less an adult). I will never patron this establishment again. If you are in Rutland go to China Kitchen, when we order from there it's less money and twice the quantity of food ( a full box). I am not sure if this is normal practice or price gouging because they are the only game in town. Still disappointed and frustrated as this was supposed to be a treat for making it through the worst of our business being closed due to the pandemic.

East Asian Cuisine is my preferred Asian restaurant in Rutland. The food is reliably good, the menu is diverse enough to keep it interesting, and in general I've had good service! I recently did a takeout order and I think my only complaint was that the online order form took some interpretation (it's all shorthand) and the real menu wasn't posted anywhere (hence my pic today). One thing I really appreciate is the large amount of vegetables they include in their entrees. The chicken dishes come with a healthy portion of nicely-cooked beans, etc, which make this one of the healthier take-out options in the area. The restaurant itself is a nice place to have a quiet dinner where you can hear each other talk; a nice thought for folks who are hard of hearing.

I had to come in and edit my review of this place. I have come here and patronized then since I moved here. Never had a bad experience until yesterday. There were maybe two other people total in the entire restaurant. And the man got , my drink wrong, and my order wrong. When the food he did bring out to us came, there was hair in it. I have a HUGE issue with hair in my food so I said something. I asked them to take it back bc i wasn’t going to eat it. So in return , that angered the man. So he proceeded to nickel and dime us for “the soups and salads that came with our meals” just an fyi I didn’t eat bc I was so off put by the hair. I came up and asked why I was being charged for every single thing down to the sauces I asked for (bc he literally nickel and dimed me) and he got mad and started yelling at me! The woman had to diffuse it. They are absolute crooks. And nasty mean people to boot. I told the woman. Yeah cash me out. I’ll pay. But I’ll NEVER come back again. The way they acted was absolutely disgusting and completely unprofessional. The man yelled at me saying “BUT DID YOU EAT YOUR SALADS AND SOUP ? That’s why you are charged! “ first off the soups and salads came with the lunch I ordered and I didn’t get that lunch bc YOUR HAIR WAS IN IT! no I didn’t eat my soup or salad! I didn’t even eat the California roll I had on the table bc the avocado was hard and inedible ! 80.00 for a messed up lunch and an angry Mexican man to attack me verbally like a cheap pos . I used ti drop a bit of money there bc I enjoyed it there.

NEVER AGAIN! I highly suggest not...

I have always loved coming here, maybe because I'm biased because it was me and my wife's first date but she loves Chinese food in general. But we have always come here but specially for our anniversary. Today's meal was one of the very best meals we've had in our lifetime, not because the food was great(which it was) but the service was spectacular. Not only was it our anniversary, it was also my wife's birthday. Today, we decided to bring our kids with us to celebrate and I guess our waiter overheard our conversation about a birthday so at the end of our meal, the whole front crew from the restaurant brought out a dish of really delicious green tea ice cream and even sang happy birthday. My wife was definitely surprised and thought I had set the whole thing up but as much as I wanted to take the credit, I was honest and said I had nothing to do with it. Something funny did happen though, although they overheard the birthday thing, the just assumed it was my infant daughter's birthday so that was mixed up but can't bash them for that error, they went way above and beyond to provide us with superb service and how can I not leave a more than generous tip after that? Not just because my daughter made a complete mess like all kids do but the service was extraordinary. Well done, I will be back for many more years as long as I continue to live in Rutland and I may just come back even if I leave town because they made this...
