Dropping it down from a 5 star to a 2. And that 2 is because I really did enjoy the time I was there. End of August my husband and I went in to cancel our membership (which was also inconvenient, can’t do it online, over the phone, or just one of us stop in on the way by). After 6 years going to this gym, and at least 3 of those being crappy years during Covid (which we paid religiously, thinking it was going to get better soon, yet not going) it didn’t make sense to continue here any longer.
We went in and the lady asked why we were cancelling, and I was prepared for an awkward conversation, so I just said it, we’re going to Planet Fitness. She brought us in. She was short. Seemed put off (which I guess makes sense, but still), and slapped some forms on the desk to fill out.
She was curt and bordering rude, “You’re still going to be charged for the next 30 days.”
I was stunned. I said to her, “for 3 years during Covid my husband and I paid and hardly went in, getting nothing from here and you’re still going to charge another 30 days for nothing?” She snipped back “Everyone gets charged this”.
25$ a week, times 3 years during Covid, time. Money they happily collected, and still have the audacity to charge another 30 days. In hindsight I should have cancelled back then but I always planned on going back when restrictions were lifted and it was safer to be there. I guess that’s on me.
But Planet Fitness came to the area. We went back to Anytime for a while before jumping ship, but decided for the cost vs what you get it didn’t make sense. Planet Fitness is on the way to and from work, you never have to wait for equipment, the tanning, massaging, and meditation lounge are all included as well, and it costs 25$ a month for that package. A MONTH. And the kicker is, I can buy that package and bring a guest, no extra charge, as many times as I want. At Anytime, no day passes are allowed. And they make sure you’re not bringing anyone in by having a camera at the door.
So in short, it was nice while it lasted, but your afternoon/evening employee, a dark haired young lady, may need some guidance in finessing customer retention. As well as may don’t lie to your customers.
No, ma’am, you don’t charge this 30 day fee to everyone, just people who give you a reason for leaving that ticks you off. My coworker and friend cancelled his membership a week or so prior and your gym waved his fee, specifically saying “You’ve been a customer for a long time so don’t worry about the 30 day fee.” he didn’t tell you the reason he left.
He went to Planet Fitness also.
Returned to the gym after Covid restrictions eased up and the improvements are great! Regular business hours are staffed and the staff are engaging and involved with the clientele. It’s been very...
Read moreWent in for 7 day trial to see if I wanted to become a member. I was not offered a tour, staff didn’t introduce themselves, and gym bros who seemed to be there for their jaw muscles made sure that plyometric boxes were unavailable for use, holding their laptops and equipment. When I asked staff for help finding things their assistance was very minimal, with preference to vague gestures over using their words, and weren’t busy with other things. They give their mop bucket a HEAVY pour of pine sol on my last visit there, giving me a headache so I moved to a different area. They went to that area and stunk it up with the chemicals again. The biggest red flag was when I finally got around to asking for prices-they went over their prices THEN PULLED OUT THEIR COMPETITORS PRICES!!!!! Not even kidding, top right drawer. When I said I didn’t want to know the prices of any place other than the gym I was in, I was told that this is their competition so if I was looking at joining a gym, I’d need to know anyways. I mentioned that the Rutland community rec center is $12 a month, they went on to point at the new tv that just came in and their stairmaster-which come from member fees-not the monthly fee, or the sign on fee, or the cancellation fee-all of which are real things they charge for-it comes from ANOTHER fee added in April and October. I asked about promotions, they said they don’t have promotions any time of the year. I’ve worked for this franchise before, and I know what fees are set by the franchisee-and Rutland, people visiting Rutland, I’m telling you right now they are SCREWING people over. They don’t even have classes. Their idea for classes is to have people rotate on machines. Just like planet fitness that’s $10 A MONTH! (I hear they’re opening in a couple weeks) I also called the business that they were throwing under the bus-their fees are actually LESS than what anytime offered, and there’s no cancellation fee. I’ll be checking out the competitor’s gym that this place was bad mouthing. Suggestion to staff-maybe focus on YOUR value instead of minimizing the value of others. Also-you’re out of soap in one of the bathrooms. 2 stars because they had a GHD, Thompson Fat Pad &...
