Rookies Sports Bar & Grill (Huntley) — Restaurant in Rutland Township

I want to share my recent experience at the Rookies in Huntley. My family and I went there to see a band play with some other family and friends. We had had 3 separate parties at one table with 3 separate tabs. We’ll call them tabs 1-3. My family is tab 3. Another group we know arrived a little after we already ordered food and drinks and we had them join our table so they are now tab 4. Throughout the evening our service was horrendous. It took 30+ minutes to get a single bottle of beer and there were several appetizers and drinks ordered throughout our entire table that were ordered but never delivered.

Fast forward to the end of the night and one of the parties gets their tab, pays it and leaves. Tab 4 who arrived last also asked for their final tab, paid it and left. Then my wife wanted to go, so we asked for our tab, paid it (added a 20% tip) but we stuck around for another 20 minutes as the kids were having fun dancing to the music. The server then comes up comes up to me after 20 minutes of paying my tab and says she forgot to add something to our final bill and hands me another bill for an additional $18. I thought this was odd as I never had it happen to me anywhere else but I gave her my card anyway to pay it.

Im waiting to get my card back as we were about to leave she then approaches me again this time with a bit of an attitude and asks where the tab 4 party is. I said they left over 20 minutes ago after they paid their tab. She then said she also forgot to charge them for items on their tab and that because they a part of the larger table they would now charge us for this discrepancy. I told them that I had no idea what they ordered to verify the bill but I’d gladly give her their number and I’m sure they can make it right over the phone. She said no, we would have to pay it. I then asked to speak with the manager. The manager comes over with an even bigger attitude and says if we don’t pay it she’ll call the cops. Keep in mind that during this time they are holding my card due the additional $18 I had to pay and they won’t return it to me. So I said go ahead.

Police arrive after 10 minutes or so and ultimately the manager admitted to the server being new and messed up the bill. She told the police that the they didn’t end up running their original tab for #4 at all, even though they signed a bill and added tip. So ultimately the bill was paid by us to avoid further conflict. We never received an itemized receipt just told we had to pay an additional $48 on top of the additional $18 we additionally paid. We ended up paying 3 separate bills for one meal due to the servers error. The manager took our number and said she’d provide us with a copy of the itemized receipt of the $48 within 24 hours and as I write this review 3 days later we have still yet to receive that itemized receipt. We got scammed, plain and simple. The tab 4 party confirmed after the fact that their credit card was indeed charged and the 3rd bill they charged us for $47 was almost as large their first bill.

I’ve never been involved in an incident my entire entire life where the police were involved and I sure as heck won’t patronize this...

To the owner of Rookies. He did not try his best. He came to our table extremely confrontational. He was rude, impatient and did not even offer to see if maybe the transaction was rung up incorrectly or try to figure out what happened. If he would have had any interest in what had happened, he would have listened to my parents try to explain that the gift cards were just taken out of the protective coating. If this is your mangers best, then you have a whole host of problems that will continue to compound. We are tracking the transactions on these gift cards and we will post our findings.

Nore the manager at this location is the rudest most obnoxious human being toward the paying customers. This guy was extremely rude to my elderly parents who thought the gift cards they were using had more of a balance on them. Turns out there wasn’t. The manager Nore comes over to our table and basically told my parents to deal with it as if they were somehow trying to rip off Rookies for the remaining $6.08 left on the bill. Point is… this location is in Huntley Sun City. Nore probably gonna get a lot of customers that have difficulty understanding their gift cards. Nore needs some compassion and patience for paying customers, or Rookies needs to replace Nore with a true professional who understands the people that pay on his paycheck. To the owner of Rookies. We frequent Rookies, because the atmosphere is great and the food is a hit with the kids. Tonight, I was especially shocked by the service. We were seated on the patio with menus and popcorn, but no silverware. It took over 25 minutes before a server greeted our table. The patio had 3 if not 4 servers working it. Not one server stopped to check on us. We finally had to get a hold of a server and ask who was assigned to our table. This also took place after two other tables seated after us were attended to first. At one point one of my children, even tried to raise his hand to get a server’s attention. The magician was the first to greet us and nearly finished his performance before a server came to take our drink orders. After 25 minutes, when the server arrived, no apologies were spoken and the server acted like we had just sat down and proceeded to take our order. We were also notified that the kitchen was backed up. I asked for onions and peppers to be added to my chicken quesadilla and was given the attached. We love Rookies, but may stick with the Elgin location...
