I had been to Green Papaya several times before since they've been open and I always look forward to try something different from their menu. Their dining room was nearly full when we arrived at almost 7pm on a Thursday. A very popular place for Thai cuisine!
The look of their dining room is impressive, complete with crystal chandeliers spanning the ceiling space. Not only is it a beautiful ambience, the decor above serves to create more intimacy in their dining space.
I ordered my favorite Fresh Spring Rolls right away. I enjoyed how this version was rolled more small and bite size than I have experienced other places. I notice when they are rolled this way it really helps to keep the ingredients within the rice noodle paper in place while I enjoy generous amounts of peanut sauce along with each bite. Yum! And surprisingly filling! I ate them too fast before realizing I hadn't taken a picture yet! Before I remembered all that was left was a pool of peanut sauce, a banana leaf and a pretty little edible orchid. I did eat the orchid having googled out of curiosity its dietary benefits as we sat anticipating our entreés.
I had made and tried curry dishes at home but I had never tried it in any restaurant until this visit. I decided to ask our server what the difference was between green, yellow and red curry before I made my decision. She answered succinctly and I took a few more minutes to decide.
I went with the yellow curry but asked for no onions. I asked if I could substitute broccoli. She replied it would be a $2 upcharge, but I backed away from that kind of modification. I asked if there were any other vegetables that could be substituted without an upcharge, and it didn't seem it was likely. She did offer to have them include more peppers already a part of the dish and I was pleased with that. However, when my dish arrived it did, in fact, include broccoli and I was overjoyed!
My companion ordered Thai Fresh Garlic. I did try a bite and the sauce was scrumptious!
We enjoyed our time at Green Papaya and can't wait to return. I would have loved if our server introduced herself by name. It's always nice to establish a personal connection with the ones who work so hard to keep guests pleased. Next time I will ask. She was sweet, helpful and she kept our water glasses topped just at the right time.
Thanks so much for a wonderfully satisfying, tasty meal. See...
Read moreThe food was great, the atmosphere was wonderful. But the service was HORRIBLE. I didn’t get his name but according to the other employees he just started working there and it was his 4 day working. (For the company/customers wondering who he is). It’s a middle aged men who doesn’t have a whole lot of hair on his head top. When ordering we asked him if there is “Pho” which he replied to that he’ll drive to the nearest market and get it for us. At first we thought it was a joke and asked again and instead of saying ‘YES we have’ or ‘NO we don’t’ he started rudely asking if we know what Pho is even and where it came from. For a person who just started working he shouldn’t have this type of attitude. Mind you we let that slide and just kept ordering. After getting our drinks and it was time to order our food we asked him if it’s possible they can remove the spiciness some dishes like sushi rolls have for the kids. (Mind you some dishes have a red jalapeño picture next to it indicating it’s spicy). But he rudely turned to my kids who are teenagers and said “tell your mother that if there is a red jalapeño sign next to it. It means it’s spicy”. And he kept repeating that over and over when I was just trying to ask if they can take it off from the dish. I am a grown women who has 4 kids and I’ve been to a lot of asian restaurants. Some even though it indicates spicy on some dishes they can take it off if you ask. But AGAIN rather then saying ‘NO we can’t take it off” or ‘YES we can take it off” he just aggressively kept telling my kids to tell me that this sign indicates it’s spicy like I’m dumb and can’t understand him. He speaks good English and I do too but I admit there is some accents to it but that doesn’t give him the pass to treat me like I’m dumb and don’t understand anything. I was VERY offended and so were my family. We also encountered other issues but they weren’t that bad compared to this. I am a kind person and understanding and gives a lot of chances before they speak up but this behavior is UNACCEPTABLE. It will NOT profit the business hiring employees that are aggressive, racist, rude and hot headed. We did not have a pleasant experience even though the food was great. The only reason I’m even giving this a star is because...
Read moreGreen papaya's one of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately this one has absolutely terrible service. The ladies there were extremely rude. We specifically pick this place because it's stated on Google It closed an hour from then. So we arrive, get seated, And as we order the ladies say we have fifteen minutes before the kitchen closes??! "Oh I thought you closed at 9:30pm?" I stated to our waitress. To which she replied "Well the kitchen closes at 9:00." In all my years, both going to and working for restaurants. I have never seen a restaurants posted hours 30 minutes AFTER the kitchen closes. We had a couple people who didn't speak english so we were translating the menu and the server was getting very rude about the time. The translator had to ask her to give him a moment of time because he needed to translate. (You would think she would be understanding as she clearly didn't speak their native tongue. But clearly she didn't care) The women working there kept giving us dirty looks and glares across the restaurant throughout the meal. And this was a special meal for us. So I was really disappointed as I had informed my guests that it was one of my favorite restaurants. And for them to witness the treatment and service this way was very upsetting. The ladies then proceeded to get rude and insist we leave at 9:30pm. I used to go to the green papaya up in Jacksonville weekly. They have very good food. But I will NOT be back to this one. If I were you I'd recommend carry out. The service is...
