Wonderful experience! Third time at a Metro Diner on our vacation and our best experience yet. Britney M. knows how to balance our needs, and manage expectations. Juggling our table’s requests against the line manager (Marcus), was interesting to see (and hear) across the restaurant. Glad we were able to get what we wanted no matter how Marcus wanted it.
Actually that’s the only blemish on our experience today…. Really, our party of 8 is ordering more food than the rest of the customers here combined and if we want a side of something, it shouldn’t be a big enough deal to make an issue of it— if you won’t give us a free sample, simply say kindly, “there’s a .50 charge for that.” Stay professional. Don’t bully your waitress in front of the restaurant guests; that makes us uncomfortable and we came here to relax and have a good time, not to get people in trouble or watch people snapped at because we didn’t know better than to make a small request.
Anyway. Other than that spot on our experience, we had a fabulous time. The food here is outstanding. The waitress was polite, friendly, and fast with service. And goodness you have to order the Hawaiian burger and the fish n chips! We can’t wait...
Read moreWe had the most marvelous experience here! The food was top notch, as it always is at metro diner, as we are discovering on our trip through the south— but what was particularly beautiful was our incredible server, Brittany. We are a big family with 6 kids 😳 who all want special things from water without ice to this meal “but hold the X” and so forth, the way kids often are. She just handled us all so professionally and kindly and was just fantastic. She gave us a wonderful impression of metro diner and southern hospitality. She even got us a side of cream cheese icing for our waffles when requested. This kind of 5 star service is exactly what exhausted parents need when we go out to eat. As a mother of 6, I cook and serve 8 people every meal of the day every day, and I go out to eat not just for the food but for the service— to finally get a break. That’s exactly what I got at metro diner. Thanks so much for taking care of this mother and her high maintenance family, Brittany! You’re a credit to the restaurant! We will definitely go to metro diner again because of you & this...
Read moreWe are here in St. Augustine on vacation and this is the only restaurant we've visited more than once. The first time we went I ordered an asparagus/crab omelette with hashbrowns and a biscuit. The second time, I had a massive burger that felt like something off of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives! I double handed it and smashed it down to get it into my mouth, but it was worth every bite.
We've yet to have a disappointing meal here and I'm so happy we found it. The staff is so kind and the manager seems sincerely concerned that everyone enjoys each visit! Our second visit he even recognized us.
I honestly can't speak highly enough of this place: next to the ocean, it's probably the thing I'll miss most when we head back to the midwest.
Edit: Make that three total visits! On our last visit we got biscuits and gravy (best I've ever had) and a chicken biscuit sandwich that is going to make Chick-fil-A very dissapointing when we get home. We also learned that the manager brings in provel cheese from St. Louis for certain dishes! Is there anything not...
