May, 2025 Found myself back in the area at lunchtime so I figured I'd give them another opportunity. Really is just a wine store/bakery/pizza place. There is nowhere inside to eat. The restroom aren't available. Strictly carry-out only. So I'm not eating lunch here, my car is not a dining room. But I decided to pick up a couple of donuts for Saturday breakfast so I can have some idea if the food is that good. With at least four people working, the service was surprisingly slow. Get your number, wait several minutes. One older woman appeared to be helping a customer but just sort of wandered around the bakery case looking at things. Guess she doesn't know what's inside it. Both she and the woman wrapping up pizza slices & sandwiches to-go were bare-handed. From food to money to boxes and countertops and right back to food. Not sanitary at all! 😳 She did use the little papers for getting two of the donuts but not for the other two. Not looking forward to food poisoning. Tongs are a neat device, try them out. The cherry donut was very tasty. I like that it was glazed on both sides so it did not dry out. The chocolate frosted stands out in that the frosting actually stays on the donut & not on the paper. The two apple fritters were eaten the next day. Both were seriously thick, well-glazed (again, avoided drying out) but only one had any apple in it and very little at that. The cinnamon was a bit lighter than others but still good. Work on your proper food handling/sanitation and maybe I'll stop in again.

Tried to stop at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. (The Italian sub sounds delicious.) Lights are out, doors are locked. No longer serving at this location or maybe an extended holiday closure I can't say. But I'm...

They were closed for a vacation last time I stopped by for one of their famous canolis I was there in 12-21-24 And tried their sought after fig cookie. I only bought 1 since I wasn't sure I would want more. OMG, I loved every bite and by the time I finished it I vowed I have to go back ASAP for more. I was also lucky to get a slice of their cassata cake and it looks so appetizing.... and I got 1 canoli that I have not had in years. I got a piece of their pizza but it was not as good as it looked since the toppings were dried out (it was ready made). I talked to a guy in line who was raving about their Italian subs and said they are better than any of the chain restaurant subs and said you cannot find a better fresher sub This is a small bakery and the place was packed. I waited at least 15 minutes and live 45 minutes away. I now have a major craving for their fig Cookie that the cassata cake and canoli will not quell. Do not miss your chance to try some fig cookies. August 17, 2025 I tried the breadcrumb square pizza; oh my Goodness...oh yum šŸ˜‹ I got one piece to try and now I have to go order a square pizza breadcrumb style...so full of flavor and is beyond delicious šŸ˜‹; my new favorite pizza. Thanks Bommarito Bakery; you make thousands of people happy just by doing what you have been doing since 1925! Keep up the good work... I live at 30 mile and Van Dyke and I have to drive 40 minutes one way just to get some breadcrumb style pizza because no one else makes it this style. I also had their famous lemon ice ... everyone needs to try both the lemon ice and the breadcrumb pizza. Both of these...

A Family-Run Gem – with One Small Challenge

I’d been meaning to stop at this bakery for the longest time, but until now, the timing never worked out—it was either closed or I didn’t have the option. Today, I finally made it in.

Getting inside, however, was a challenge. I use an upright walker, and there is a step at the entrance that must be navigated to get through the doors. While I understand the bakery has a historical marker outside and is part of the area’s history, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s not ADA-compliant. For people with walkers, wheelchairs, or other mobility devices, this step could be a barrier—or even a dealbreaker. I was able to manage because the step was just small enough, but it still took effort and care.

Once inside, the place instantly felt like ā€œhome.ā€ The staff was warm, welcoming, and happy to help. The display offered a lovely selection of baked goods, and I couldn’t resist picking up a loaf of Italian/French bread (as labeled) with a seeded top.

The bread? OMG—absolutely delicious. The crust had that perfect chew, and the center was soft and fresh. Despite the hurdle of getting through the door, this bakery is worth the effort.

Bottom line: If mobility isn’t an issue for you, getting inside will be no problem, and you’ll likely love what you find. If you do have mobility challenges, be aware there’s a step at the entrance without a ramp. For me, despite the difficulty, the bread alone made the...

The hours posted say that they're open til 6pm, this isn't true. Today we rushed to get there before they closed. We got there at 5:55pm. Right as I was walking up, a little girl closed the security door on a customer walking out, almost taking his head off. The customer said something to the little girl in rude tone. I walked in and said, "well in her defense, it's not 6 O'clock yet". Some blond woman behind the counter was totally offended by that and let me know she didn't appreciate my comment, which she clearly didn't understand what I was trying to say. You're either open til 6pm or 5:55pm. There is a difference. My family is Italian, we been buying our cannoli there for 30 + years. I understand, it's the end of the day and you want to leave, however, if you want to close when it's more convenient for YOU, maybe you should start a business working for yourself. We'll be buying our cannoli from a different bakery from this moment until the end of time. These are the cannolies we got, which look like the woman smashed them on purpose. Of the thousands of cannoli we've bought from bommaritos...not a single one has ever looked like it took a right cross.

Anyone who has grown up out here knows of Bommarito Bakery and the family behind it. My father would pick up fresh breads and our favorite Italian subs. Our school would have Bommarito pizza days. It wasn't uncommon to get a package of Bommarito cookies as a gift. When I left for college in Ohio my dad would come to visit with two subs from here as gifts. I was just back in town with my husband and kids and of course had to order it all and share. I was super excited that you can order online now as I remember waiting in line already back in the day. We got everything quickly and effortlessly. My parents was having some concrete work done so I also ordered food from here for the workers. They all loved it! I am so happy that this business continues to thrive and I wish that they had a mail order business so that I could get their subs shipped to out here!
