Rice with red sauce included in the meal was excellent, I ordered it with no vegetable. I do regret what it came alongside; I should have ordered chicken like my parents. The 20 dollar shish kebab was made with rubbery stew meat (that much was obvious, though it is not a bad idea to use the cubed stuff in such a way. I just wish it wasnt chewy.) and although I ordered it cooked medium (my own mistake shouldve gotten medium rare) I didnt expect charred parts on a couple of my pieces. Was actually a fan of the 5 slivers of (measly amount for the price, shouldve been more of those deliciously flamed onions and redbells) vegetables on my kebab. Those charred nicely, but the black bits on the beef tasted... They tasted black. For the rubbery quality, the meat was actually pretty flavorful. Thats a plus.
It is prudent to point out that we had to be physically served a cuplet of salt packets on request and were only given one menu to read amongst the three of us and refused another (politely of course) and they had no soy sauce in a restaurant that serves rice (i completely understand in this time, however, soy sauce is relatively cheap)
HOWEVER i wouldve rated this as a lower level 3star if itd only been these itty bitty problems. The new hire who brought us our 3 water glasses and bread including some butter in a plate thingy /hugged the stuff to his body./ I'm dead serious. They didnt train this poor kid to get a plattery-thingy. Nobody corrected this poor kid from point A (kitchen or station) to point B (us). He had to be five times as embarrassed as we were. Please, train your new hires. Not everything included in the basics is cut and dried for everyone, and as a food service person, stress does prevent good decisions sometimes.
My parents chicken was relatively good. Keep it up on the chicken, however, you can get better chicken anywhere. It was however, remarkably fresh-looking. Portions to price was much better for the chicken. The cups for the drinks were also intensely small based on how much ice was in them. Had to ask for low ice last refill.
If you come for the shish kebabs in pursuit of greek food, get it medium rare with extra veggies and a rice with...
Read morePegasus has been a local and family run Detroit "Greektown Staple" for over 24 years. Both their Greektown locations and St. Clair Shores location boast of their broad and authentic Greek menu. I am a St. Clair Shores local resident and typically dine at the St. Clair Shores Pegasus location. Their heated structured outdoor patio is perfect all year round with a plethora of natural light. Their outdoor heated patio tables recently got a facelift and they look classy! Much of their staff have remained loyal employees and you'll see a lot of the same faces.
Their menu is diverse with all of the classic dishes you'd find locally in Greece and embodies the authenticity of Greek Cuisine. I'm a creature of habit and usually start with the Saganaki appetizer and pita bread. If you're anything like me, you'll have a hard time picking just one item so an entree! They have a combination platter with your choice of lamb, beef or chicken with Spanakoteropeta, Moussaka and Dolmathes served with rice and vegetables. If you're new to Greek Cuisine, this dish is for you! They have an assortment of authentic lamb dishes, as well. All of their meals are served with the traditional Greek-village style bread. When I traveled to Greece, I was able to take cooking lessons with a local chef in Athens and Pegasus' tomato sauce is above average.
This most recent time I've dined here, David was our server and he was knowledgeable and authentic. They have a large parking lot so you won't struggle to find parking. They are able to accommodate large groups, as well. When I don't have time to dine-in at Pegasus, they are one of my take-out go-tos. They are not open on Mondays, but this seems to be a common post-COVID era restaurant theme, so it's not a big deal!
If you're looking for an authentic taste of Greece without boarding a plane, Pegasus is a...
Read moreAbsolutely LOVED my experience at Pegasus Taverna. In all honesty I haven’t had much exposure to Greek food so I wasn’t sure what to expect prior to dining here. But let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised by everything from the service to the food. M
My party was a decent size since my sister, her husband and my husband were in town visiting my brother in laws family. They’ve gone to this place for some time so it came with high expectations. We were all seated right away and opted for the outdoor patio since that’s what was recommended. I’m sure it’s quite nice when the weather is decent outside but on the night we visited it was pretty warm outside. But that didn’t stop the great experience.
Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. He answered any questions we had on the menu since we were unfamiliar. Honestly it felt like he knew us even though he didn’t. I love that their customer service vibe is so relaxed.
My brother in law ordered the Appetizer combo for the table to have. Honestly I’m sure exactly what it included but the spread they had in it was absolutely delicious! Did I mention they bring fresh bread for the table too? The spread worked perfectly on the soft bread.
For my main meal I went with the chicken gyro. It was amazing! Everything was so fresh and I added a bit of the spread from our appetizer dish to the pita. Perfect pairing!
This place deserves more than 5 stars in my opinion. They have great customer service and their food is delicious! I’d definitely come back if I’m in the area again. I wish they had multiple locations so I could it more often....
