This was our second time here, but first time eating. Our first time we went, the menus smelled like a nasty towel that had been used to clean every surface in the restaurant. Our waitress wasn’t the friendliest which also made the first impression a little rough. It was so off-putting, we decided to go elsewhere.
We came back for my husband’s birthday 2 days ago with family, hoping to give it a second chance. Considering that we were coming into the restaurant on a Friday night and on Black Friday, we expected the place to be packed, but it was not. We were a party of 8 and a toddler and we sat down right away. Our waitress was very aggressive and again, not friendly at all. We didn’t have any opportunity to look at the drink menus before she was wanting drink orders. 3 of us ordered unsweetened iced teas, and the rest waters. When she brought the waters out we were told (not asked) to pass the waters down the table. Then the teas came out and looked VERY cloudy from the second they were placed on the table. After adding a Splenda, a white foam formed at the top. The taste was absolutely DISGUSTING and the tea had an odd odor. After telling the waitress her response was “that’s weird I brewed it yesterday.” So I am questioning if the tea we all took a sip of had been sitting at room temperature for an entire night and throughout the next day. I can’t even imagine what the inside of the container that holds the tea looks like…
When the bread that came with the dinners were brought out, there was no consideration for where they were placed. I know I used the word aggressive before but that is the only way to describe how the bread was passed out is, aggressively. The food was mediocre at best. The menu boasted about everything being homemade but that is questionable. I personally ordered the cheese ravioli and it was warm. Not hot, not cold, almost as if it were sitting there for a long time before being brought out. The garlic bread that came with it was more garlic than bread; it was VERY strong. The general consensus at the table was the experience was just okay. We all felt that the food quality was poor, especially for the price.
One last thing that really made an impression on me was the smell of the restaurant. We were sat at the back near the restrooms, and I couldn’t tell if my daughter had a dirty diaper (she didn’t) or if the smell of sewage was just that strong.
I feel like this place has potential if the staff were trained properly on customer service food preparation, etc, and if the food/menu prices were re-evaluated. But since both times resulted in some not so great experiences, we probably won’t be giving Bella Marie’s...
Read moreI found this restaurant on Trip Advisor while searching for Italian restaurants in St. George. I was visiting from Chicago. The food was good, the service needs some serious work, and my first impression was really bad. I walked into the restaurant around 8 PM on a Wednesday night and the place was almost completely empty, there were only 3 other tables dining. The two employees who were at the host stand were handling a takeout order and neither looked up to greet me. Disclaimer, I work in the restaurant industry so I feel I am very compassionate but perhaps my standards are also high. I asked the one employee if I seat myself since he didn’t greet me and he told me to wait in the waiting room. I couldn’t figure out why I was in a waiting room in an empty restaurant but I waited for a couple of minutes and was literally about to leave when he finally sat me. The host was young, but train your staff first impressions are everything. It looked like the owner or manager was the other person so I can give the young kid a pass, but the owner or manager made no attempt to seat or greet me, or even be hospitable. I got to the table and my server is nice, Rion. I eat mostly vegetarian and they had a mushroom bolognese dish advertised on their website on this private dining menu. I came to the restaurant because this dish sounded amazing. The private dining room is the adjacent room divided by a wall and I could see there was one table of 4 guests in there. Rion says he needs to check with the owner if they can make that dish for me as it’s reserved for private dining. He comes back and says they can’t. Sounded pretty ridiculous, I can understand if the place was busy but on a slow night here is an opportunity to wow some guests and make a good impression and they did the opposite. We go out of our way to bend over backwards to guests where I work and we are not in the business of saying no unless it’s something completely unreasonable. Anyways, I ordered the vegetable pasta primavera. The food was good but overshadowed by this comedy of errors. I also ordered a beer from my server and he came back a couple of minutes and told me he doesn’t have a liquor license so it will be a moment. The owner came out like five minutes later and delivered it without a word. It took ten minutes to get a beer in an empty restaurant. Constructive feedback. I wouldn’t recommend this place or come back based on the service experience I had. The owner and or manager needs to train the staff and set an example and he made zero effort to show me any...
Read moreI'm conflicted. I want the world to know about this little gem, but I'm afraid that if I do, it won't be my secret haven. But I've decided to risk that, because more people in St. George need to know about this wonderful establishment.
I had a fantastic experience at Bella Marie's this week, as I alway do! My friend and I went during lunch time on a weekday, and were met at the door by Marie herself. She is extremely warm and inviting, and her knowledge of the menu was impressive, although that is to be expected from the owner of the establishment. Our food arrived in a timely manner, and Marie kept our drinks fresh. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken, and my friend ordered the Bella Marie's Farm Harvest Pizza. Both were excellent!
The Atmosphere was welcoming and quaint. The interior decorating is warm and of the type that "sparks joy" as my mother would say. There is greenery and accent lighting in all the right places. the tables are spaced so that even if the restaurant were busy (which, regrettably, it wasn't), our conversation would not have intruded on other diners.
There is something of a "Restaurant within a restaurant" in Bella Marie's Moon Room. It's a separate room with a separate fine dining menu that can be reserved for parties or intimate meals for special occasions such as anniversaries, etc. Just as charming as the day is long.
If I had any constructive criticism to offer, the interior temperature of the restaurant was disproportionately cold when compared to the warm look. And the foyer of the restaurant has a sandwich board sign that, to me, is a little disconcerting. It lists policies that seem somewhat combative. The foyer of the restaurant is the first thing people see, and should be inviting and welcoming. I felt something of a rebuke, as though I was being told the rules. If management were to soften the wording or create a QR code that interested customers can scan to learn the various policies and procedures, it would go a long way toward making the entrance to the restaurant more inviting.
One more thing: There is a white fiber-optic tree near the foyer that, according to Marie, is frequently misunderstood and has led to some negative feedback, and I wish to explain it. I will include a picture of it, but it is meant to represent an angel that watches over the diners. I find this charming.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Bella Marie's, and will visit at every opportunity. Maybe just turn up your temperature a smidge and do something about that...
