El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Saint Helens

I went here because I was CRAVING their verde sauce in a burrito. I ordered their carnitas burrito. I used to work at an authentic Mexican restaurant and carnitas were a favorite of mine. They're usually super tender and delicious. I received carnitas jerky on the inside with nothing else inside of my burrito. I couldn't even chew the meat or cut it, it was so overly cooked. I told them and the waitress offered to get me something else. We talked and agreed on a beef verde burrito instead. I waited and she came out with pork colorado. Not a burrito at all and not what we had talked about. She said she had a miscommunication with the kitchen, but didn't apologize or offer me anything else other than flour tortillas. I was in shock, but accepted. I could have asked for the burrito I wanted, but by this point I knew I didn't want to wait again with 3 young kids who had mostly finished their food at this point. I tried to just enjoy the Colorado. It was bland and not good. I took it to go and planned on adding to it at home for breakfast.

Service wasn't particularly friendly, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, maybe it was a long day. They didn't fill our water and it took a while to get boxes and a check.

When the check came, I was shocked they put the burrito on it. I calmly, kindly, and firmly told the waitress, I didn't want to pay for the burrito I didn't get to enjoy. She called another waitress over and I explained it to her. She said "well, we could charge you more for the colorado, but it costs more". I explained, I ordered a burrito twice and didn't get a burrito and I didn't want Colorado. She finally agreed to comp it and by this point I was shaken up.

My kids were pleased with their food, but we'll go to the Rainier location next time. They're friendlier and I have never had an issue with their food or...

Worst manager ever! I came in on Saturday 6/28 at approximately 1:30pm. I was polite asked for a drink was promptly given my drink and then asked if I wanted food.I had not gotten a chance to look at the menu so he politely said he would be back shortly after I had decided (everything is fine and great at this point no complaints) I then proced to wait in the bar completely by myself for over 18 minutes (I looked at my phone) I then went up to the bar and waited for another 3 minutes for the dishwasher to finally notice me and then go find the "manager" and let him know that I was needing service. He finally came back so I could close out my bill (I no longer wanted to give him my business) He said that he had been very busy with a large group in the other room that had come in. I tried to be understanding but after walking out the door and looking in the dining area there was no large group! I asked him where this large group that he was taking care of was and he then said "I was taking a catering order" I simply said "So there wasn't a large group that you were talking a order from?" He then ran up on me right into my personal space (I am 5 foot even so I know when people are trying to intimidate me with their size because most people don't try to do that but some do try to intimidate me with their size) He then told me to never come back! He got caught for lying to me and was embarrassed. He used the little power that he had to try and intimidate me. It didn't work! I love El Tapatio in St.Helens and the owner are amazing I just wanted to make the owners aware of what was going on. I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere is great. Nice music, decorations, ect. The issues started when we were not attended to for over 10 minutes to take drink orders. We ordered food and it seemed like the waitress was not paying attention to what was going on. We ordered fajitas for two and she looked to me after my wife ordered for us to ask what I was having. Not a big deal, but still evidence she isn't paying attention. The chips came with salsa and bean dip. The bean dip tasted like straight refried beans out of a can, no seasoning. The salsa was okay, but nothing I would say is good. It took us over 25 minutes to get our food. Once it arrived I felt the portion was a large amount but a good deal for the money. We got flour tortillas that are just store bought fake tasting tortillas. The shrimp was very fish (meaning old) and not fresh. I only ate one bite of that. The steak and chicken was very old and chewy as well. Tasted as if it was made the other day and stored in the fridge overnight. I felt bad for the manager she said a bunch of people called in sick today so maybe that explains everything. We will not be eating here again unless things improve. Get some fresh food and better servers to improve...
