Chuck-A-Burger is the last old school 50s drive up burger joint for cruising in STL. They're keeping it incredibly real, and it's easily the very best in at least a 100 mile radius for this very specific culinary experience. It's amazing, and so very, very specific as a piece of Americana. The cultural connotations and personal memories are generational -- I hope they never close. I strongly recommend their Vintage Melt -- a class grade BLT with shredded iceberg, two sirloin smashburgers, thousand island dressing, and preposterously melty American and Swiss cheese, on two nicely buttered slices of Texas toast. All served on styrofoam with two napkins, directly to your hot rod door. Don't miss Chuck-A-Burger; they've reached perfection.

I very much enjoyed my experience at Chuck Burger. My waitress was Mindy she was more than capable and friendly. I ordered a Chuck Burger original with cheese and the quality was impeccable. My burger had that juicy, toothsome texture and deep succulent crunch with my onions, pickles, lettuce and tomato. Their burgers are pleasantly thin and crispy like Steak and Shake but in a much more grandeur way. Served on a toasty sesame seed bun my burger was complete. The french fries were hot and crispy and full of yum. This is a 1950s Diner and is decorated in the 50s decor. Come and sit down next to Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley and enjoy a chocolate shake, burger and a fry while listening to Ricky Nelson sing " A teenager in love." Enjoy!

Curbside service only. Dining room is not open. This was disappointing. It’s been 40 years since I ate here. It’s right across the street from my old high school, Ritenour, on St. Charles Rock Road. I ordered the double Chuck burger, fries and a small vanilla shake. The double burger was lacking in meat compared to their competition. Their fries are very good and the milk shake was terrific. The fries are a little above average in thickness. They were cooked perfectly. The milk shake was thick, creamy and the perfect vanilla taste. If you go online and see they have inside seating I can tell you that it’s no longer the case. Very prompt and friendly curb service for take out. It took less time then I expected to receive my order.

Came here on a Friday afternoon with my mom and sister. We were looking for a place to grab a quick, inexpensive lunch. My mom and sister ordered the patty melt with a large order of breaded mushrooms. They both enjoyed their meal. I ordered a single cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger wasn't even warm and the patty was completely dried out. I couldn't even eat it. The fries weren't much better. You could tell they had been fried in old oil...they were also lukewarm and chewy. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy my meal at all and probably wouldn't go back.

Update: With regards to your reply on my review, first of all I don't appreciate your implication that maybe the problem was with me...as if I'm too picky or something. I've reviewed many businesses and I'm always honest about MY experience. Yes, my mom and sister enjoyed their meals. But the fact remains that MY meal wasn't satisfactory. You say everything was cooked to order at the same time. I wasn't in your kitchen so I can't say anything about that. But I can say that MY burger was barely warm and the patty was dry. And the fries weren't much better. When I order a burger and fries, I expect a hot juicy burger with crispy fries. And I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation. Finally, you're not the only business to get a less than stellar review from me or anyone else. Maybe your cook was having a bad day, or maybe mine was finished first and sat until the entire order was complete. Again, I wasn't in your kitchen so I don't know what happened. But I would think that an owner who truly cared about their customers experience would at the very least apologize for the bad experience. Instead, you come at me with a snarky attitude and imply that I'M the problem! That tells me all I need to know about you and your business. If you can't accept that maybe YOU got it wrong, then maybe you're in the wrong business. Regardless, I won't be back. Have a...

This was our first time at Chuck-A-Burger. My partner has heard of this place all his life (hes 39), and I have only heard of it recently (last few years). I was willing to give it a try because he finally found the location and I live about 2 miles from here. We got there and this girl in the building was looking at us as we pulled in- she was on her cell phone talking. we noticed this and then it looked like she was not paying attention to us we thought she was looking at someone behind us. Lo and behold- she was the one to come out and get our order. Wow! And she was not very friendly. So... He got the BBQ burger and curly fries and I got the catfish dinner. The burger was not homemade or anything resembling what we have come to expect from Mom n Pop eateries. It was your average burger from any chain or out of a box from walmart. The fries were cold before we were a block from the building (I know, i was the one who sneaked them out of the bag while he was not looking). And the were your average crappy curly fries. When we got home my catfish was still warm- at least it had been cooked right then. The fries were cold and old. The catfish did not have any flavor to it at all. I have had catfish dinners before. I know what they should sorta taste like. They didnt taste great. Our overall impression is 'I'm not going back". I asked him to give it a few more tries. Yes it was craptastic this time. No we do not expect the burgers to magically get wonderful. But maybe the next burger will be a bit better and more along the line of this could be doable in the future. I know i will not be getting the catfish again. First impressions are important. However i like to give things a second and third chance. Just to make sure i give something...

My beef isn't about my personal experience, but a would-have-been customer. I've been coming for years and never had a problem with the food or the service personally. However, last night (a Saturday) me and a friend went there a little after 8:30. I checked my phone beforehand to see what time they closed and it said 10. We ordered our food, got it nice and quick, tasted right, everything on our end was fine. No sweat.

At 9:08 an older couple walked in and the waitress rejected them and told them they were closed. They looked pretty disappointed and the man said they came all the way from St. Charles to come there. The waitress said "sorry" and went about her business. I said to my friend, "I thought they closed at 10." Then he told me that he overheard them talking about closing early, and it sounded like they just made the decision to close early simply because they felt like it.

Now I understand deciding to close a little early if the restaurant is dead, but it was about half packed and there were even people who came after us that were still waiting on their food, so it's not like the kitchen was shut down and probably not even in the process of being shut down yet. They could have served these people, and they should have.

I just think it's bad business to advertise that you're open until a certain time, decide on a whim to close early, and then turn down someone who comes not even 10 minutes after the staff arbitrarily decided to close earlier than they're supposed to, because in reality they were there 50...
