Hickory Hut — Restaurant in Saint Paul

Hickory Hut is BBQ spot off of University and Dale in Frogtown. We placed a to-go order online through their website and it was super easy and convenient to use. For a family of 5, with tip, bill came about over $100. So we really wanted food to be tasty for the cost.

Unfortunately, a lot of the food fell a little flat.

Stars of our meal were the rib tips and pork ribs. Pork ribs were a bit on the drier side, but the flavor was amazing. We also really enjoyed the fries and hojos, not to be confused with jojos. (Hojos, were more of a fried chip) Seasoning was super good and they were cooked very well. The Mac and Cheese was probably just so so, but our youngest seemed to enjoy his.

The brisket sandwiches left much disappointment, as we were served some type of beef on a sandwich. It did not look like any type of brisket that I have ever seen before and tasted mushy. The two people in our group that ordered these, ended up throwing them away, as they were just that unpalatable.

Coleslaw was heavy on the vinegar, to the point that the vinegar and cream were separating, so I would not recommend as a side.

I would probably stick to the ribs if you want to give this place a try. If you do want sides, I would opt...

I came in at 11:09pm for a beer before I decided to call it a night. There was a gentleman behind the bar who greeted me and proceeded to try and tell me what the Happy hour specials were. I informed him it was 10 o clock after he relayed to me he had NO idea what time it was...I let him know what time it was no big deal. I proceeded to ask the young lady behind the bar what was going on tonight, as there were people dancing and good music playing. She replied back, " I DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS WHEN I AM CLOCKED OUT." I was shocked. I asked for her name and she refused. I asked the gentle man for her name and his... they both refused, he exclaimed, you've been a problem since you walked in here! I asked for his owners name and when they would be back in so that I could explain my frustration to them. Luckily I was able to get a photo of the Male bartender.i will be back tomorrow to explain to their managers how poor it was as a local visiting a new bar in this area. I will NOT be back after...

Way overpriced!!? way overpriced. Definitely will not be returning for the prices. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The hojos were horrible they were dry like they might have been old and re-cooked for the price should not be getting re-cooked food. So disappointed and let down the chicken was good but just way overpriced.

So I decided to give this place a second chance. Big mistake as I walked in the guy that was working the front counter was taking out trash he walks back into the kitchen and start handling food The lady that was previously there before me told the guy hey hey you need to stop and wash your hands he did not stop and kept handling food. I told him I'm not going to buy no food until you wash your hands his response to me was that was a clean garbage bag there's no need for me to wash my hands.
