Hunter Boys Southern Style Barbeque — Restaurant in Saint Paul

The food and service were great. Fast and tasty and friendly. When I got home with my order, I thought it looked like a bit less food than I expected, but more variety. Oh well, my family and I devoured it. Then when we were done, there was a knock on the door. One of the owners brought us more food! Turns out they had given us the sampler platter instead of the Feast for Two. They had looked me up online to find my address and deliver the correct food to my door free of charge! I can’t remember service like that recently anywhere. Loved the food as well. Best items were the brisket (my favorite at any bbq joint, so I’m biased), the chicken (not usually my favorite at bbq, but awesome here), and the spare ribs. Regular ribs top notch as well. Hot links exactly what you expect. Sides; the corn bread was amazing, had a touch of honey in it, Mac and cheese above average, greens so-so, coleslaw solidly delicious, baked beans good, corn okay. The bbq sauces were good, but a very subtle flavor. They were not Northerner sauces based on ketchup. They were thin and tart, clearly with tomato, and meant to compliment the smoked meats instead of overpowering them like some sauces. Unexpected, but a really good surprise. You don’t need the sauces, since the meat has such a good flavor, but they do add something. So happy we have a great authentic bbq place in our neighborhood....

Disappointed to say the least. Looked and sounded like decent BBQ, and really wanted it to be, but everything I had was just not good. Are here for lunch. Had pulled pork sandwich, beans, corn, and cornbread. Corn was cold and was clearly just boiled, beans were overly sweet, cornbread lacked flavor (and they didn’t include butter). Bread of sandwich was soaked thru because the coleslaw was overly sauced. If there was any BBQ on it (picked their classic), I couldn’t tell by taste (clearly there was based on looks). To start! Was over charged menu $8.50 for small tip 2 sides and pop! Receipt says $9.99. When brought to her attention. Stated its $1 more for wedges brought to her attention that is $9.50 gladly refunded my money! Told 15 mins took 1hr 40 mins. For small tip combo 6 wings. As for Taste!
