John's Pizza Café — Restaurant in Saint Paul

I Used to go to this restaurant quite a few years ago and I would always order a calzone and some pasta. I was craving this specific calzone so I wanted to get one from this place because I remember them being amazing so I drove about 25 miles to get there. When I got home I was super disappointed that my calzone was burnt, On top of that when I came to pick up my food I parked next to their entrance door the lady on the phone When I called when I got there to pick up was a little unpleasant. She basically told me sorry you need to drive around the block to get your food because I am on the phone with another customer. I guess I didnt really understand that because I was literally sitting next to one of their entrance doors which doesn’t make sense to me. When I got there and walked up to the door it said on a piece of paper to call the restaurant and go back to the car and wait for your pick up food to be brought out to you. So that’s why I was upset that I had to drive around the block to get it seemed a little ridiculous... Anyways back to the food so the calzone came burnt unfortunate, the lasagna was not good at all it was just a bunch of sauce and noodles which was surprising. The hoagie was excellent and I would definitely recommend it. I would most likely come back just because I know that they had awesome calzones before and they reminded me of the calzones that I would get at this resort in Florida it was the closest thing to it. TLDR: Awesome restaurant, delicious food, totally worth the price!

We had my son's birthday party here yesterday and it was awesome! I had never been here before but my partner gave it high praise so I figured we'd give it a try. From the initial call to book their Garden Room through the end of the party, John's staff was professional, courteous, patient, and kind. No matter how many questions I asked or how many times I had to change the date (thanks Covid), they handled each interaction quickly and clearly. When the day of the party came, we were allowed in early to set up/decorate and the staff conferred with us about when we'd want drinks, food, etc. Our party of 25 people fit comfortably in the Garden Room with enough room to move around. For the party we ordered a garden salad, 1/2 pan of Mac n cheese, 6 pizzas, and 6 2 ltrs of soda. The food was absolutely delicious and many people raved about it! The Mac n cheese was made from scratch and a huge hit! We had several people with food sensitivities (celiac and vegetarians) and were able to accommodate all of their needs plus we were able to get a selection of pizzas to suit a variety of tastes. There was plenty of food for everyone and we're even enjoying the leftovers today (which reheat well)! The prices may seem a little high but are definitely worth it for the quality and deliciousness this fine local restaurant provides. Friday April 27th my children and had just got into town and decided to come here for a bite to eat. As I was ordering I had my children sitting down playing on their phone and a white male In his 50’s approached them calling them stupid, dumb and more names and saying that they needed to learn how to behave act plus more. My daughter told me right after so I approached him asking him what he said to my children and he said it wasn’t any of business then went on to say I need to teach them better carrying on.. I walked back to the employee and told her what happened and they handled the situation immediately. We were called the “NIGGER” multiple times by the male. As bad as I wanted to react he couldn’t get a reaction out of me. The manager put him out and made sure my children and I were safe the whole entire time. I called the cops to avoid us being harmed because of a “HATE CRIME”. My husband showed up and the male was arrested after having multiple warrants and being intoxicated.. God handled the situation and saved me from a bad reaction. I can’t thank the staff enough for handling the incident and making sure we were safe.
