Astra Pizza & Subs — Restaurant in Saint Petersburg

Uses GrubHub for deliveries but complains about them. Travelled all the way from Clearwater to pick up an order for a customer. Guy said he didn't know about an order. He looked at his screen and knew exactly what the order was without me telling him. I called GrubHub about the situation and also called the customer to let him know that it would be an extra 30 minutes. I stuck it out because to reassign to a different driver would have taken a lot longer. Guy at pizza place stated that GrubHub used to call him. They don't do that anymore as it's just assistance at first to make sure the restaurant is doing okay with the new systems. They stop doing it because you should know how your system works after awhile. Also the alert is very loud and is distinct when you get an order. There was no excuse to have the customer wait longer. Customer said it was his first time using GrubHub but probably his last. I had to defend GrubHub because this was the restaurant's fault, not mine, not GrubHub's. I was a bit apprehensive when I saw the store (seriously, it's just a little corner store) but I just had the most amazing New York Style meat lovers pizza....ever. I talked to the owner and no wonder everything tastes so amazing. They fly all of their ingredients down from New Jersey and EVERYTHING is created fresh on the spot (including their special pizza sauce)

The crust is thin while being crunchy with just enough chewiness to it. The sauce has a slight sweet twang to it with just the right amount of cheese and plenty of cooked meat. To die for.

Oh and I had a chocolate cannoli for desert that seriously topped off the meal. It was fresh, crunchy and dipped in a dark chocolate with chilled cream in the middle and a nice chocolate glaze drizzle.

If you like GAMBLING and BURNT BREAD. Order the CALZONE from here because it's a 50% chance it will be all bread and 90% chance it will be BURNT and don't trust the so called "FAMILY SIZE" cause unless the OWNER thinks he is in LITTLE ITALY in ETHIOPIA it's not gonna be enough for more than a family of ONE even as an APPETIZER so make sure you order more ( BUT NOT FROM ASTRAS) or have a back up plan and if you do get DESPERATE ENOUGH to call for food and DON'T LIKE THE PRICE JUST HANG UP AND CALL BACK CAUSE THE NEXT PERSON YOU TALK WITH WILL PROBABLY GIVE YOU A LOWER PRICE BECAUSE THEY DONT KNOW THEIR OWN MENU AND MAKE UP PRICES ON THE FLY it might be only a quarter or two but hey you're still saving money.
