I hardly ever leave reviews but I was so disappointed. I've eaten at the og Chile Verde on 22nd so many times and always thought the food was fresh and the prices were reasonable.
Today I stopped at the location on 34th Street. The host/server greeted me immediately and I was seated. I have to say when I opened the menu I was pretty shocked at the prices. No where close to the great deals on great food I remember from the original location but .. inflation, so whatever.
I order the $16 flautas (plus the extra $1 charge for crema, nothing is complimentary here so be mindful of any add ons)
The food came out quickly and I had to laugh because I thought, this cannot be my full order??? The portion size was less than a child's order, definitely smaller than an appetizer, the entire entree could have fit inside the circumference of one small flour taco shell. 4 flautas about the width of a skinny cigar. Perhaps 2 oz of steak in the entire meal. No queso, just meh. I'm not comparing CV to Tijuana Flats because I appreciate the difference in authentic Mexican, but if I order flautas at TF, it's a full meal, I leave stuffed and typically take home leftovers for less than 10 bucks.
For the amount of food served to me today, my bill should have been 4.99, tops. I can't believe it was $20 after tip for what was perhaps 7 bites of food.
I left after finishing my plate, still hungry and stopped somewhere else for more food.
I will say the salsas were excellent, the restaurant was clean and my server was kind, but for the price I was charged, there should have been 3 times the amount of food. I will not be back unless the portions are increased or the prices decreased. This felt...
Read moreI came here because I had a taste for some mexican food. Being from california mexican food is part of our heritage, regardless of what your heritage truly is. This was definitely not it. Guacamole should have some type of seasoning when it comes to you, Not just smashed avocados, no salt, no pepper, nothing. The one thing I will say for the place is that the two waitresses that were working were awesome, and they really tried to enhance the experience even though the food was not doing it . This is a stark difference from when I came here a few years ago and yes, it has changed hand since then. The cook is a hispanic or should I say a mexican gentleman and he felt that the food was okay and authentic. I don't know where he is from, but obviously he has had his mexican card Revoked and got this job afterwards. There was no effort put into making anything that he did. You cannot put a sign out that says authentic mexican food. When it is not. If I want a california burrito that has potato in it as well.I don't want french fries placed in there. Don't believe I will be back because the food was just not what it should have been. Very upset about that. With the way this food tastes and was cooked, this place now needs to be on Kitchen nightmares, Gordon Ramsey might be able to help him out. Or get a...
Read moreI've had my eye on this place for quite a while. Driving by a few times looking into the windows from my car it appeared to be a fast-food place where you order at the cash register and get your food in a bag with an option to sit down at a table, if available. So I kept going. I knew there were tables, but usually saw a few people lined up at the cash register and assumed that was part of the dining experience. But today, curious and hungry for something different, I went in. "Are you dining in or taking out?" Well, my plan was to dine in and I took the table of my choice and a nice server brought me a menu and took my drink order. BINGO! That's what I like! I asked if the chips were pre-salted. In some places one cannot get tortilla chips without salt. "No, they are not salted." BINGO! I try to watch my sodium. So I ordered chips and queso. I continued to look at the menu while I waited for the chips and decided on cheese enchiladas. The generous order of chips and queso arrived, and I ordered my main meal already realizing I would be taking some home. Two plates full of food soon arrived, one with the enchiladas with all the verde stuff covering them, and one with refried beans and rice. Oh my. All of it was delicious, and a...
