Hardee’s — Restaurant in Salem

Usually this is my go-to place every morning and I literally mean anywhere between 6 to 7 days a week. Usually some elderly ladies are there working that are sweet as pie. A handful of times we have some other folks at work when the elderly ladies do not and they're not so bad except this morning.... I see a new face behind the weekend ladies. And the poor little girl looks frustrated as can be. Come to find out by the drive-thru Lady it's only her third day. Poor thing back there she just looks like she was bewildered and lost and expect it so again as to drive through lady said it was only her third day. So why you're too employees making fun of how slow she is when the key phrase it's only her third day. As a mother to an autistic child who has learned a disabilities and sometimes has hard problems working with anything in public I seen this in this new hire they have, I recognize the frustration she has on her face and the movement in her body and hands. As the older employees are sitting there rolling their eyes and apologizing for the new hire which I don't mind I was not in a hurry this morning or any other morning because I leave early from work just in case anything happens. the drive-thru lady kind of angered me but I told her it was quite all right and just fine. Of your seniority employees to make fun of the new hire. However I do continue to go to the store and will continue to go to this particular store as it's my favorite. And this is exactly what's fundamentally wrong with people in the Roanoke valley area. Instead of making fun of people we need to help people... What a complete disappointment. I and my girlfriend just walked out of work 6:45pm 5/29/24 , we didn't want to cook anything and we had narrowed our options down to Hardee's, Arby's or Sonic. We didn't care to eat outside as it was too warm and being by the river, mosquitoes would be out. Hardee's won only because we didn't want to eat Arby's Jalapeno poppers this late at night. When we arrived at the main street Salem restaurant minutes later, we thought that maybe it had gone the way of the Bojangles down the road and only oper a few hours a day. The parking lot was empty except 3 cars behind the restaurant. After we parked, we waited to see if there was any movement inside. Suddenly from a booth inside, someone popper up, grabbed a broom and started sweeping for around 30 seconds. Someone in a car from the rear of the building came in and ordered. We contemplated going elsewhere because generally if no one is at a restaurant, the food is bad. I had been there during lunchtime a few weeks prior and the food was excellent (which is the only reason I rated it 2 stars). We were tired and hungry, so we went inside. The guy who had been "sweeping" was the one taking out order. I chose a double Frisco burger, and a 5 piece chicken tenders meal. Everything was hot, but definitely not fresh. The burger patties were hard around the edges, and the bacon quite hard. The chicken tenders should have been called old rooster kibbles as they were small and hard. The smallest was less than 2 inches and longest 3.5 inches. I ordered a double order of fries and even my girlfriend commented that it was barely a single order. Lesson learned... don't go...

On the road, tired and very hungry. I've been to this Hardee's numerous times in the past since ir is a straight shot off Interstate 81 at Salem, Virginia.

It has been deteriorating for a while now. There were two people in the dining area. We made four, so it wasn't busy. There was no line at the drive through. Consequently, there is NO excuse for the poor service and poor quality of food we were served.

I got a "Famous Star Burger" with fries and a small beverage. Not only was meat hard, the entire sandwich was COLD. Not cool, COLD... Took it back to the counter and told the young man that the sandwich was unacceptable . He said "we'll fix it for you quickly."

They didn't.

Ten minutes later had to go question where the sandwich was. Finally got it. This time it was warm, yet tasteless. Bun was torn in three places. Best thing about it was the slice of tomato and a few scrap pieces of white onion. Other than that, not much flavor. To call it a major disappointment is a vast understatement.
