Super 8 by Wyndham Salem VA — Hotel in Salem

Looking at all of these reviews I am pretty positive that people are getting this motel confused with the Super 8 that is across town on Thirlane Rd. There is no female management here in Salem but at the Thirlane location the management is a husband and wife. Also that place is run down and in a bad part of town, while at the Salem location the hotel is in good condition and Salem is known to be a wholesome family friendly place. Lastly, at the Thirlane location the wife's answer to literally EVERYTHING is to call the police. The one and only time I stayed there she threatened her own employee with the police because the girl had refused to rent a room to people due to the fact that it had black mold growing inside of it Here the bathrooms are clean, the staff is very friendly, no elevator but honestly I need the exercise and they have the first floor for disabled patrons. I am a smoker and was happy that they have smoking rooms but I noticed that it didn't smell like smoke on the first floor where the vending machine and ice machine are located. I have stayed here multiple times as I travel around a lot and have always gotten my deposit back, no problem. It sucks that they have gotten SO many bad reviews just because they were confused with a different hotel. This place is great for the price. This place is a disaster. They screwed up our reservation from the beginning. Our room was not ready to check in so we told them we would be back at midnight after Va Tech game. They gave us our room keys and said our room would be ready by then. Well. It wasn’t. We walked into the room. The heat was on for some reason, the tv was on and we were afraid that someone might still be in the room. Thankfully the room was empty but in a sorry state. Went down to the front desk and they put is in their worst room on the bottom floor. Just said I needed a clean place to rest for a few hours w a good AC. Well , neither was the case. We got a window unit AC that was moldy and barely worked and a Bed full of black pubic hairs. Gross! Told her I didn’t want to pay $85 for this and she said since we booked through Expedia that there was nothing they could do and the unpleasant management man would be in in the morning. As if it was Expedia who deliberately didn’t clean our room and stuck us in this nasty, moldy trick turning disaster of a room that we are in. Bottom line, this place couldn’t not produce a clean and comfortable and safe experience for us even after we booked months in advance. This place is a worst case scenario option for anyone thinking of staying here. And I really hope the owner responds with one of his pre written canned responses to this. For the price, cleanliness , convenience and friendliness, this Super 8 deserves a five stars rating. The room was quiet and no noice at night. On a VT home game weekend, there were limited availability in Blacksburg and Christiansburg, we were able to book a room with two queen beds with much better price and booked only two days before the game day. The Super 8 in Salem was only 30 minutes from the Lame Stadium. Our room had everything that we needed, even a microwave and mini fridge which I did not expect for the price of nightly stay. As long as you don’t have the expectation of Hilton or Marriott’s standard, you will be happy with your room. The furniture was in good shape and bedding/ window treatment were tasteful. The room and the bathroom were clean. The free breakfast was nothing special, but had a variety of cereal, yogurt, danish, waffle, oatmeal, fresh fruit, coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, and juices. Enough to get your day started. What I like the most is the hotel manager Ketan, he was the person answered my call when I had a question after made the reservation, he was the same person when I called to inform him that we will be checking in after midnight, he was there checking us in, Ketan was there to serve the breakfast and checked us out the next morning.
