Here's a tip for the uninitiated about King Donuts: King Donuts only makes enough doughnuts that they can sell in one typical day. They never hold any doughnuts over from the previous day, at least not on any of the multiple times I've been there. Once they sell out of doughnuts for the day, they close. It's rare for them to be open until 2 pm on any day because they are the only good doughnut shop in Salem. (Day-Night Donuts is fried sadness.) So the rule of thumb is to come early for the best selection. If you come late, like around noon, most of their stock will already be gone. Honestly, if it's around noon or later, you might as well wait for another day where you can go early. For your usual assortment of fried goodness, they make 'em classic, like you remember from when you were a kid. Soft, fluffy, and satisfying. Don't be fooled into believing these donuts are any better than Hostess donuts you can get at the store. All other lots in the vicinity indicated what authorized vehicles were allowed. $391 later we found out that the owner of Kings Donuts called to have our car towed from their empty lot even though they weren't even open on Sunday. Don't bother...

My husband and I ordered 2 donuts and I went to pay with my debit card and was rudely told my total had to be $3. I never saw this posted anywhere. My husband, who has been here before, was very surprised at this and commented on the less than friendly customer service. I probably would have not thought a lot of this but when I took a bite into my apple fritter I was disappointed because all I could taste was the oil it was cooked in. One of the edges was so hard I could hardly chew it. The more I ate it the more I realized that the donut was burned and that was all I could taste. I finally threw it away and I probably...
