Whenever I visit Salem, I check if the construction on the state capitol building is finished, but even after more than a year, it’s still ongoing. I walk my dogs diligently with a bit of disappointment, wishing I could admire the view of the state capitol building from the vast lawn. Read moreThe capital building is small, but it's easy to find because it's the only building in Salem with a golden domed roof. I went here with a group of teenagers and a staff person offered to take us on a tour of the building free of charge. She showed us the governor's office and explained the purpose of the different rooms. It's not the White House, but it was a nice experience for a group of at-risk youth who might have not had this opportunity if it wasn't for the kindness...

Lots of rose bushes, and statues and monuments. I like the sculpture fountain one in the photo I posted. It looks very sci-fi or something, almost like a large spherical spaceball that opened up after it crashed down onto the land or something. Look for yourself, it's an interesting statue...
