Mei Hoo — Restaurant in Salem

As you can see from the other reviews it seems people either give it 4 or 5 stars or 1 star, I believe I can provide some insight into why. My family has been ordering from Mei Hoo's for as long as I can remember, and in that time it has changed hands (to the owner's son or family member) at least once. Around the time of these transfers they did have a bad period but has since found their form again. I will agree their customer service isn't great and when you call in for an order they go by phone number. At times it may seem they are being rude but I honestly don't think that is ever their intention and its more of a cultural thing or something of the sort. They take your order, and provide you food, straight to business. Everyone that I have encountered that works there (except for delivery people) are not native English speakers and have strong accents, but I can't fault them for that, so be patient if you have a hard time understanding them or if they have a hard time understanding you. The delivery times can differ a decent amount depending on how busy it is but usually its around 30-45 minutes, can be over an hour if they are VERY busy. Their food I'd say is great 95% of the time, with it maybe being slightly off the other 5% but still good IMO. If you want to eat in restaurant, their dining area isn't anything special but its good and clean. Whenever they mess up an order or forgot something (which is rare) they are good about correcting it. Like any other business they have some flaws but I think they provide a quality service and would never consider changing my usual Chinese take out restaurant...

I ordered on line for a pu pu platter it displayed 13 dollars which it starts off served with pork fried rice and then 2 of this 6 of this and for additional people it would 12 and change added to the cost, I typed in special instructions that I would like the house lo mein instead of the rice. When I got there they said it did not come with rice, so I said I will order the lo mein on top off. However on the way home I was like well wait a minute does that mean I did not get 2 of this and 6 of this for the price of 13 which is what is displayed so I got home and checked my order no I got 1 of this 3 of that that should have meant 6 and change of cost not 13 which showed 2 of this 6 of that it was very...

The food rated a 3.5 star but the service at the restaurant was lacking badly. The person whom we placed our order with seemed to be either in a bad mood or didn't like me. We asked her three times to wait a minute to run our card because I needed to transfer funds to that card. So she ran it any way and it declined, she firmly placed the declined receipt and in EXTREMELY broken English "no good". We said we asked you to wait. I now completed the transfer and asked her to try it again, boy her body language was like she was upset to run it again. Our food only took under 20 minutes then we left.
