Momiji Sushi Restaurant - Hyacinth — Restaurant in Salem

I’ve been coming here about once or twice a week for over a month and usually enjoy the food and experience. However, during my last visit I had a really unpleasant experience with one of the staff members, probably the owner. Every previous time I’ve come in, I was told by staff to grab my own drink from the fridge (including beer) and they would add it to my tab. This time, when I did exactly that, the employee came up and scolded me in front of others, told me I wasn’t allowed to do that, and demanded my ID even though I’m 45 yrs old. It was embarrassing and unnecessary. If alcohol shouldn’t be self-serve, that’s completely understandable — but there should be clear signage or consistent communication among staff. It’s frustrating to be told one thing for weeks and then treated like I did something wrong the next. I completely understand there are laws, regulations, etc. around serving alcohol. Obviously there was some miscommunication along the way in this situation but the way it was handled and how embarrassing it was to be scolded in front of everyone in the restaurant, its safe to say I will no longer be...

This is some of the absolute best sushi I ever had. We came to look at a place to live in Keizer & stopped in here for lunch afterward- I wish they were closer to where We actually live. We would be in at least once a week. The only reason I gave the atmosphere 4 stars is because the place is small- they need a bigger space. I believe this is a well kept secret & I didn't want to review because if they get too popular we may have a tougher time getting a seat at all when we come back. The food was truly excellent. Both my son & I are quite picky but we both raved about this place all the way home & have talked about them twice since we were there not even a week ago. First off the food was good im not gonna say that it wasn't, the atmosphere was chill and the service was great my only issue is I have to say that was the smallest most undersized sushi rolls I have ever had in my entire life ! My deep fried roll was approximately 1 1/2 inch in diameter at best . I have never felt like I was getting ripped off proportionally this bad in my entire life ! I have eaten alot of sushi and reviewed and this by far were the smallest rolls i have ever seen . Maybe perfect for my 5 year old but not for me .
