Windjammers — Restaurant in Salem

Absolutely disappointed.

My best friend and I have always loved Windjammers. It’s been our go-to spot when we want to grab a drink and enjoy a mellow night out. The vibe has consistently been great—until this past Saturday, when the experience was so horrible it left us questioning if we’ll ever return.

The bartender that night, an older woman with glasses, was not only rude but straight-up disrespectful. From the moment my best friend (who is always polite and respectful) asked for cherries in his drink, her attitude shifted. The way she looked at him—full of judgment and disgust—was beyond unprofessional. It felt personal, and frankly, homophobic. Every interaction after that was laced with passive aggression and eye-rolls.

He ordered one drink on his card, I ordered mine separately. When he later asked for a food menu (we were sitting at the bar and had never ordered food there before), she didn’t even speak—just pointed vaguely at a table behind us. When we finally got her attention again to order food, she took his card and snipped, “Is that it? Are you sure? Because to keep closing out a tab is a lot of work for us.” He had ONE drink. That’s it. It felt like we were being treated as a burden just for existing.

At that point, I told him absolutely not—we are not supporting a place that treats their guests this way. He asked to cancel the transaction and get his card back (she hadn’t even walked to the POS yet), and we left to support another local spot that actually respects its patrons.

The only reason this review isn’t one star is because of the bubbly bartender with the curly hair—she’s always a delight. Maybe management should reconsider who they’re scheduling on busy weekend nights. If that kind of energy was directed at the girls openly vaping at the bar instead of people just trying to enjoy a peaceful evening, maybe the hostility would be more justified.

Thank you for completely ruining a place we used to genuinely enjoy. We won’t be back anytime soon.

A friend of mine and I we're trying to find some food South Salem at night and let me tell you there's not much out there these days we just happened to stumble on Windjammers first time I've been there why did you slam keep this Plaza when I worked for DeSantis landscapes Butthead never been into Windjammers man were we lucky to find I think the only place open South Salem karaoke chicken wings a pretty damn good bartender it was definitely a fun night outdoor smoking with your cocktail and Heat that's a bonus the ambience was good the service was good the food was good drinks we're good I'd give this place and 11 + for freaking being open let alone all the other amenities it was clean,didnt smell like an old ashtray anything like that so I just want Windjammers to know I...

Went in @appox 10pm...went straight to karaoke room,boring dj but my friend has been there 9:30p already and he put in for his turn for singing...I'm there at ten ,to see my friend sing,but by Ten thirty..still no call up to sing...anyway ,I think they need a KJ who is more fun...this one looked a little overwhelmed...well that was my first time there!!! I liked clown for a waitress, lol but I didn't wanna.drink till after my friend sang his song,well we waited to 10:45... anyway he said let's leave...the sad thing was my friend tip him/dj we should of tip the evil clown!! So what a waste...maybe it will be better next time🥱🥲🥱👼 karaoke...
