China House Restaurant — Restaurant in Salinas

As soon as we walked in, we smelled wet dog. The carpet was filthy and smelled terrible. The wallpaper is peeling and the walls were dirty. We ordered the combination chowmein and we had to return it as they forgot to put the shrimp in it. The manager came with a small bowl of chowmein with a few shrimp in it. The chowmein was not edible; it was extremely greasy and no flavor. The BBQ Pork and broccoli was a fail. There were little bits of pork in it and big pile of broccoli. The server never checked back on us and we needed refills on our drinks.The manager was rude with us when I said we were not paying for the chowmein as we left it untouched. He was verbally abusive and said because we "ordered" the chow mein, we had to pay for it even though we did not eat it. We did not pay for it and he told us to never come back again. Not a problem!!...

I felt very uncomfortable while eating there. I guess they have a new owner,who is Mexican. There was a biracial family "black husband , Mexican wife "and he pointed them where they could sit. He never gave them the menus,greeted them,ext. They waited I say about half an hour. In the mean time other 2-3 groups of patrons came in, and he greeted,took them to their seats, give them their menus. I couldn't believe it. I Guess they noticed the racist in the owner after 30min they got up n left without even ordering. I know the lady spoke Spanish because she said have a nice day n then bad words in Spanish. It's sad,if u r going to have a business you can't be racist or at least fake it. You don't want color people,or mix couples then get a business where u don't have to see...

well im not sure about most of the reviews but I've been coming here since I was born quite literally and I love the atmosphere is great the staff is very friendly and attentive the food is great especially the seasoned rice soup, crab rangoons, hot plate, fried rice, and chicken wings wait isnt so long too im a picky eater so I haven't tried much but even so the food has always been my favorite here although over the years this place has gotten a but pricy but quick tip is to just get a liter of soda or whatever drink you'd like instead of individual drinks cause it'll end up costing you less that way but yea overall I love this place but I understand it doesn't float some people's boat but dont knock it till...
