Smalley's Roundup Restaurant — Restaurant in Salinas

I have tried 3 times. 3 strikes, You're OUT! Really, really bad. Overpriced & dirty. The food is Denny's style . Nothing all that special. The server was nice, but didn't take our salad plates when we were finished. Then they piled in our next course with the other empty and dirty plates. Never removed them from the table until we were finished. We sat there for quite awhile talking and the mess just sat in front of us. Messy and crowded table. The hostess/waitress was rude and acted like we were all in her way. Never made eye contact and needs tutorial on customer service. Glanced into the kitchen while leaving. Filthy. The grill, counters, floor and backsplash was disgusting. Please close down your restaurant for a week, deep clean and teach your employees the basics. Or find new ones. Start somewhere. So I come in with me and the Primo, I ask "do you guys serve burgers" the lady smiles and says "Best Burgers In Town!" Oh really... challenge accepted. With a statement like that my standards went through the roof I was gonna judge this burger so hard... well to my surprise the burger gets to me and just from the presentation i was in awe huge burger which is a big plus for me and the smell made my mouth water instantly. The first bite holy sh*t the burger was made perfectly the flavor was all there that first bite made so much juice come out the man behind the grill knows how to make a proper burger. After finishing that monster I was shocked to agree The Best Burger in town HELL YEAH. Forget 5 guys in n out Dudley's no Smalley's round up that's where u go for a REAL burger nuff said. First I have to set the stage,went to freshen up in the restroom and thought I was in a dirty gas station latrine...had not been touched since...at least the night before, puddles on the floor whitn a small warning easle to watch your step. (Should be checked hourly)

Employees raising Cain in the kitchen like they were already closed, we arrived 1hour before closing.

We were the last diners to eat, my salad was fantastic. Husbands plate was hard to look at. Dried out ribs and tri-tip with loads of (cold) BBQ sauce to try and bring the meat back to life. Clam chowder was so thick it was like left over thanksgiving gravy. If they offered same for 1/2 price because it was the bottom of the barrel it would have been to much.

My recommendation: order like I did, New York Steak salad made to order,...
