Wienerschnitzel — Restaurant in Salinas

For me...a Wienerschnitzel Chili Cheese Dog hits on all cylinders for perfect tasty comforting junk food. And the Weinerschnitzel I like best is in Salinas on Main Street (Hwy 68) at Blanco Road in the Nob Hill shopping center.

I've always received good service...the food is always consistent, hot and delicious. About the only complaint I have is thier fries are a bit hit or miss with the salt. Most of the time they hit it...but often, like so many places...they shy away from it which makes for bland fries. As if those few milligrams of salt will make the fries healthier sideshow. People...fries are NOT HEALTH FOOD...they're junk food...so salt them up and enjoy!

Anyway...this location is a bit shabby and has that dive feel to it...and being adjacent to rural agriculture areas, not surprising. However, don't equate appearance with cleanliness or sanitation...I've never had anything where I was questioning if the food wasn't clean or the service conditions weren't hygienic.

If you want a good chili cheese dog and fries...or even a chili burger...all for relatively cheap...can't go wrong here!

This place used to be really good. Which is probably why I've had a couple of bad experiences there one after another after another and I keep going back because I'm hoping that they will have got a new management or dump some sort of Renovations or upgrades or perhaps maybe they were just having a bad night the first five times I went there and it was bad but all of a sudden magically there going to be different the next time but every time I do that I am severely let down. the price? Its not worth it. Employees should change the oil in deep fryers more often and or perhaps just need to get new appliances that don't make the food taste like the burnt stuff you scrape off the bottom of the inside of a microwave.. And all their food has this flavor, not just the deep fried stuff. Another thing, the restroom is ghetto and horrendous. I can only bring myself to go in to the restroom after I eat. Otherwise if I go to rest room first I feel too unsanitary to eat and lose my appetite. Though after a stomach full of that microwave tasting crud, throwing up doesnt sound so bad after all. I'd rather pop a squat along side a bush...

This place just isn't what it used to be. I used to try to go there at least three times a month, and now they're lucky if I go three times a year. Cheese fries are still good, but they used to be great (the fries aren'tas good as they used to be, and they no longer put salt on the chili cheese fries... I mean, at least put a little bit on them before adding the chili). Their burgers are a disappointment (the bread just isn't what it used to be, and the patty tastes quite salty now, almost as salty and dry as McDs), and their specialty drinks are like sipping on the syrup they use for shaved ice. The only thing that still taste great are their hot dogs and corn dogs, but I wouldn't be surprised if they change those as well. At least their chili is still edible... what makes it even worse are the constantly climbing prices. But as long as the chili cheese dogs, chili fries, and corn dogs are edible, I'll still have it from time to time. And hey, the staff is still...
