We arrived Saturday evening around 5:30 just before the dinner crowd and were immediately seated. As we entered we asked the hostess if they were serving soft crab that evening. She checked and to our happy surprise announced "Yes!"
Five minutes later the waiter pours our water glasses and takes our drink orders. He returns with the drinks then asked if we were ready to order. We asked for just a few minutes, so he leaves us. Almost 20 minutes later, he returns. For most of this time, I observed 4 staff just chatting away around the hostess' station not 10 feet from our table. Lack of attention to the customer.
In a polite hurried attitude, he asked us for our order. I asked about a special written on the board and this turned out to be a discrepancy between the printed version of the night's special and what was printed on the chalk board. Oh well..... Gee Wiz we're sorry.... I only bring this up because I could understand if something happened after printing menu inserts that at may cause them to change the specials, but it was the chalk board that was wrong. Simply a lack of attention to detail.
Placing our orders, my father asked about a soft crabs entree, the waiter said that the they only had a soft crab sandwich, but did go back to the chef to see if there was an entree option, returning to say no, that the crabs were already floured for the sandwich. This is a shame because my mother ordered the crab cake sandwich and found the crab was good but the sandwich fixings made a mess of everything. She ended up eating the crab and leaving the rest. A couple of those fried soft crabs and a few vegetables would have made a very fine entree.....
Both my parents ordered the Irish Onion Soup, which turned out to be a broth with a few big pieces of onion on the bottom. Floating on the broth was a piece of toast with partially melted cheese. It was clear that the bowl was simply put under a broiler just long enough for the cheese to start to melt but long enough for the cheese to begin to dissolve into the broth. By the time the soup reached the table, the cheese was solidified. It could be cut with a knife.
My father ordered the shrimp scampi. Nothing remarkable except very little spinach and only a few grape tomatoes.
For an appetizer I ordered the calamari. This wasn't bad. About half the pieces were tender with a crispy crust. The others were a bit chewy.
My entree, the crab stuffed turbot was the greatest disappointment of the evening. This dish had great potential but fell short primarily due to a lack of attention. The stuffing turned out to be more a thin crab imperial sauce with bits of spinach. Very little crab meat could be found. The turbot was overcooked yet cold when it came to the table. In fact the entire entree was cold, especially the plate. The turbot was served on a bed of vegetables including sliced potato, green beans carrots and brussel sprouts. While attractively plated and a good combination the vegetables were cold and the carrots and brussel sprouts under cooked.
By the time we finished our meal and left, the waiting list was out the door..... I though to myself, "Wow! Is this all Salisbury has...

2nd time in the city... 1st time at the restaurant... Husband's Birthday Celebration... Nerves on 10...
They we're aware of our reservation and greeted us when we walked in which was surprising.
The seat that we were sat at was a small intimate booth that literally fit the vibe that we were dressed for and the emotional romantic side that we were hoping to feel...
Claps all day to the waitress Ellie because she automatically took us under her wing and took her time explaining and providing the experience of the restaurant that we were hoping to receive. Her customer service is so refreshing and vibrant!
Now let's get into this food, shall we?
Even though I researched the menu ahead of time and I don't like to judge a picture by its book. I will gladly sit here and say that the pictures do not do this place any justice.
Our first appetizers were they deep fry deviled eggs as well as the bread & oil dipping plate. We were stunned not only by the plating of such simple appetizers but the flavor truly blew our minds.
We had a great time sitting there reading the menu and the fact that they were pairing wines up with their entree showed us that they know exactly what they're doing with their flavors.
The mixologist is exactly what we look for when we visit an establishment because it shows that they know how to mix flavors and understand the complexities of the alcohol chosen with each drink.
Then on top of that, once we finally, finally, finally decided on which entree we will indulge our senses into and our waitress tapped into her customer service skills and seen that we were a bit apprehensive and unsure or what to choose from. So she offered us a sample of two sides which was a beautiful, surprising relief compared to a lot of establishments that we have visited and reviewed thus far.
Yes obviously the mac and cheese was the clear winner.
So once again our professional waitress Ellie helped our indecisiveness and was able to help us choose and finalize our decision for the entree.

Read moreWe enjoyed a very nice dinner at Market Street Inn this evening. The restaurant has plenty of parking and outside seating along the waterway. The hostess was so sweet, she actually let us pick the table we wished to sit at. The views along the water aren't spectacular but the outdoor seating area is lovely and spacious.
If you eat on the deck prepare for flies and gnats, they seemed very hungry tonight and we were flailing our arms the entire meal swatting them away. Citronella candles or fly traps would be nice to reduce the annoying bugs but they come with the territory eating outdoors.
Our server, Lyric, was such a nice girl. She was friendly, answered our questions and engaged in nice chit chat. She even helped us decide two mocktails since we don't drink. We unfortunately didn't get our drink refills and waited quite awhile for the check, but overall she was a very good server.
The food, overall, was 4 out of 5 stars. For a $17 veggie burger with fries, I expected something above a Morningstar spicy black bean burger that was unfortunately overcooked and very hard. The French fries were fantastic though! My boyfriend enjoyed the sirloin with blue cheese, lobster topping with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was more than medium rare though. He loved the blue cheese topping.
I'm not sure my veggie burger was worth $17 and the steak being worth $43, but prices are high everywhere. Between the super nice hostess, wonderful server Lyric and food, this establishment is a home run for community members and people passing through. Thank you...
