Very disappointing experience. If I am going to pay $16 (rounding up) for a salad I want it to be good. I went to Taylors BBQ and ordered takeout yesterday evening. I am looking for places for catering for my team and thought I would try it out first even though their reveiws where on the lower side. As I walked into Taylor's it was aesthetically pleasing, however empty(in all fairness it was a Monday night). I figured okay this should be quick. I order my food on their carry out screen at the entrances and sat down. There were three employees there, and no one said anything to me for about 15mins. That is when I got up to inquiry about the Candied Bacon Cobb Salad I ordered. The employee said "Do you need help with something" I said "yes. I am waiting on a carry out order, a salad" she said "Oh, okay" and walks away. I am not sure if I was suppose to assume she was going to check on it or what but I stood there confused and said to myself just wait. Eight minutes later she came back with my salad. I said thank you and went to my car when something said check your order. When I looked at my salad I could not believe what I paid $15.50 plus tip for. It was upsetting after an 11hr work day. I went back into the resteraunt and stood at the register by the bar. The male employee working the one table ignored me and the other employee, who was on her labtop at the tablez by the kitchen door look up and went back to whatever she was doing. I finally raised my voice and said "excuse me, does anyone work here" her reply was "oh, sorry you need something" she hurried over and I explained that this $16 dollar salad was not close to what I ordered. The Candied Bacon, the namesake for the salad was non exitstent and where is the egg in my COBB salad. The employee looked at the salad and said what's the problem. I said where is the protein in my salad. She said do you want more candied bacon? I can do that I said yes. She proceeded to the back and started making a face and smiling. I was going to wait and send her back for my egg also, but at that point I asked for the manager. I told her this was not what I ordered and she said yes there should be more in the salad. I said just refund me I do not want it anymore, I came here to see if I could use them for catering but I saw enough. She then says oh let me stop the extra bacon, I guess that was the priority. She gave me a full refund and I walked out and went striaght to Mission BBQ. I have posted a picture of the salad online and one of what I got. If you looking for mediocracy at it's finest Taylor's BBQ is the...
Read moreFor Salisbury (with its many awful restaurants), I'd grade Taylor's a 4.2 stars. If it were located most anywhere else, it'd be about a 3.4 stars. It has far more style than substance.
It seems they have an identity crisis, BBQ should not be in the name. The overfussed small portions and focus on atmosphere and drinks makes it seem more a hip place to stop after a movie for a drink. Perhaps "The Perched Gull" or some nonsense would be a better name.
I asked for my Turkey BLT to be hot, which they ignored. I dislike cold meat, but settled because at least they got the "no mayo" part right. It was on the wrong type of roll, a potato roll that was too overpowering, it really was all I tasted. The turkey is supposed to be "signature seasoned", but I tasted no seasoning, or flavor at all. The bacon was way thicker than the turkey, and personally I'm not a fan of chewy bacon. I'd rather them have used some cheap thin crispy bacon to save cost and given me about 50% more turkey. I'm not complaining about the $13 price if it were made how it should be, but it was just too little flavorless turkey for $13.
There was only 2 sauces on the table one that's called "Goop", which you'd think would be some knock-your-socks off flavor, nope, it's Sweet Baby Rays. Then they had a golden bbq sauce which I didn't try. No spicy bbq, no tangy bbq, no zesty bbq. No hot sauces. Just ketchup, that yellow mess, and sweet baby rays.
The $8 side salad was 90% romaine lettuce. 3 tiny shreds of carrot, super tiny diced cucumber and tomato, and their cornbread croutons. The croutons were fine, but again, if that's costing them too much to give me a decent amount of cucumber slices, I could do without. I prefer a slice or two of green pepper or something to offset the "huge" amount of lettuce. They give you 1 tablespoon of dressing in a ramekin with all of that lettuce, so I had to douse it in the malt vinegar on the table. That's when I realized there wasn't even a salt and pepper grinder on the table. Let alone maybe some pepper flakes, oregano, or something to jazz up the food.
So, if again, date night want a nicer looking place to take someone with a small appetite it might be well suited for you. But me, I left disappointed and hungry. If it wasn't for my uneasiness about just having eaten non-reheated meat (i don't know if they properly chilled and stored meat since they supposedly smoked it) I would have probably walked over and grabbed two tacos from Taco Bell to finish filling me up. So $25 for a person to still be hungry =...
Read moreVery disappointed. This is definitely NOT the Taylor’s BBQ I grew up with. My husband and I were so looking forward to enjoying our meal. The chicken was extremely dry and the skin (which is usually the best part) was burnt and not edible at all. The pork was just ok, nothing special about it. The pre-packaged Jack Daniel’s pulled pork at your local grocery store is better in my opinion. We were told by the server that the fries were just like Thrashers. The only similarity was that they were made from a potato. They weren’t even salted! The cornbread was a 1/2 step away from pudding. The best part of the $32 platter was the cole slaw. Which is pretty much all my husband ended up eating. Surely they would redeem themselves with the pork belly. The pork belly tacos were…meh, for lack of a better word. Pork belly should be juicy and tender… I mean it’s bacon for God’s sake. It was tough, rubbery, dry and totally lack of flavor. The only reason I even finished the one of three tacos (for $15) was because I was hungry and I had no sides I could turn to. We ordered Orange crushes and they were not crushes. The orange juice was freshly squeezed, I’ll give them that but there was nothing else. If there was vodka it was minimal, and no carbonation of any sort. I felt like I was just drinking a $7.50 glass of fresh squeezed OJ over ice. Husband ordered an unsweetened tea when we sat and asked for sweetener twice and finally got it after our food was served. By then the ice had melted and he didn’t want it anymore. Overall it was not a good experience and the fact that we had been so looking forward to it made it even worse. Like I said… not the Taylor’s I knew and loved. ☹️ I truly hope that today was just an anomaly and they are normally better than this. But after spending over $70 for lunch I don’t think we’ll take that chance of...
