We went to Thai Zap last night to eat in around 5:45-6pm. We’ve been there a number times, it’s in the rotation and ate in a lot and have done take out when passing thru too. Over the last few times we were glad to see they’ve been making some improvements to spruce up the place. It takes us between 20-25 minutes to get there so it takes some effort. As usual, the sign, when entering, says “seat yourself”. There about 8/9 seating options its small. When we entered it appeared there were open tables but we saw reserved signs on 4 options and 1 table was covered in plastic with what appeared to be tools. So that was out too. Fortunately, a couple at one of the occupied booths told us they were leaving which was nice. They left and we sat down and waited about 5 minutes. The server then came over (not the regular man/woman [husband/wife team?] Who are very nice, and bluntly told us she couldn’t serve us and that we had to leave but we could order take out. Gee thanks . She said the table was now reserved. We were kind of thrown, but just left because she wasn’t very polite about it. We had no Idea you could reserve a table, but was kinda given the vibe from the server “yeah you can but you didn’t” There was no” I’m so sorry” “I can rush a take out order ” or “one of the other tables will be free in x minutes”. So we left with a “bad taste in our mouth” I guess the other times we were oblivious to the fact you can reserve because it was never an issue.I can see reserving as an option maybe but not on a busy Friday night but maybe you have to at a small place.
Foods good though so I guess reserve a table so you won’t get the boot like us.
Anyhow, there are too many other options out there and we will take them out of the...
Read moreTjis was my first and only visit here. I think this is a good place but my meal this time was a little disappointing.
I ordered the chef special seafood dish that I cant recall its name now. I also had bowl of shrimp tom yum soup. The soup was very good. My seafood dish was described in menu as having shrimp, fish, mussels, scallops and squid. It arrived and did not have any squid and it did have a majority of imitation crab. The fish pieces also tasted fishy from being frozen too long. I would not have ordered it if it had been described having imitation crab in it. I just tjought for 16 or 17 dollars that it should have not had imitation crab and if they were out of squid that should be discussed when ordering and other real seafood could be supplied. So if you order ask about content to know.
I was sorry I didnt order some of the fresh catch they had on chalkboard. They offer types of local fresh fish with various sauces. I would try that next time I think. They even had a fish that is delicious and Ive never seen on a menu-wolf fish. So they may offer some unique fish if you want to try something different.
I noted a good flow of customers and many were asian so I think usually its good. If I return I will try to fresh fish options next time.
Portion was good as...
Read moreA few months ago, my husband and I saw a Thai Food sign along the roadside in front of a strip mall of small businesses. We entered the restaurant and were impressed with its charm. Mali's ThaiZap is a small mom and pop establishment that offers comfortable dine-in seating as well as take-out services. There were oldies being softly played in the background that added to the ambience.
My husband was impressed with one of their older menus that had numbered pictures of the entrees and matching descriptions in a spiral type notebook. Many improved, streamlined versions of the menu have been made since. The food was delicious. Generally speaking the main entrees have numbered descriptions of the toppings and then the customer's chooses veggie, tofu, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, seafood or duck, which determines the price. As expected. the menu also has appetizers, soups, salads and types of fried rice.
My husband and I have returned many times and have become fond of Mal the owner. She is very personable and always takes excellent care of us.
We highly recommend...
