I have frequented this bar throughout the years, popping in on occasion whenever I am in the area.
I've never had a problem with it--the food was decent and the atmosphere casual--but in recent months, absolutely everything about this place has gone downhill.
The two staff members who brought the most joy to the place--Susan and Kayla--seem to hardly be around anymore, and the remaining bartenders act like they have a bone to pick with everyone. I have never been to a bar where the bartender acts like it's an incredible inconvenience to serve you a drink, but that is the case here. The atmosphere has an incredibly negative quality about it, where employees are gossiping about other employees and other customers, the owners come in to drink and ignore every guest but the ones they brought in with them and the locals hanging around the bar have a judgmental, distrustful air toward anyone that they seem to view as an 'outsider.' It's disappointing to see an establishment that had so much potential (live music near the local hiking trails, late-nite hours, dog-friendly seating) be so honestly terrible.
Negativity permeates every part of this place. Other customers and local business owners I've chatted with have said the same thing. The owners don't seem to value their customer base, their staff or even the quality/presentation of their food. They seem to be content with doing the bare minimum in order to make the highest dollar. It's incredibly disappointing to see, yet it is strongly felt.
If you go through Saluda, go to The Purple Onion or Back Alley Barn instead. Or truly, any restaurant...

The gentleman really did sound like he was yell singing and was greatly off key. I'm not judging, I'm giving insight to our experience for future goers to know what they might expect before coming here. We would have appreciated the heads up personally. We came in closer to the end of the night so no where near when they started their scheduled session according to the post we saw. We've been here before and don't recall this volume before so thought this was the norm now and just aiming to pay it forward so others have some kind of a heads up before they get their hearts set on enjoying what y'all have to offer only to be really disappointed. I hope y'all get some kind of sound cue with future bands sorted out. We've had a really nice time here before so really were saddened over the disappointment ourselves.
Holy crud. The music was on full blast here tonight. I don't think I've ever been in and out of a place faster. The gentleman "singing" just sounded like off key yelling. I doubt he could hear himself to hold...
Read moreFirst time here - wanted to try this place based on the good reviews I'd read. Went there for dinner on an early Sunday evening - arrived about 5:15pm. Everything is self-serve. You order your food at the bar and then get your own water, utensils and seat yourself. 2 of us stood in a short line to place our order and then found a nice table out on the deck. You get a number so they know where to bring your food. It was slightly busy, but not crowded.
We waited 40 minutes when they finally brought out 1 meal (chicken salad plate). I told my friend to go ahead and eat - we were hungry! After an hour my burger still had not arrived and my friend had finished her meal. I went back to the bar with my number and told the girl that my food never arrived. I got a nonchalant apology and was asked if I wanted a refund - duh! She mentioned the situation to a manager in passing as she was processing my refund, who, in turn, never said a word to me, but instead ran off to the kitchen. I wasn't offered a discount (I had a beer), a coupon, or even a sincere apology. Basically, I was treated like no one cared. I won't...
