Good food. Service is usually good, as well. They make great tasting menudo and caldo soup.

There are at least 3 locations that I am aware of in San Angelo.

I order the machacado ala Mexicana at least twice each month.

I like the chicken fried steak meal, as well. Want a twist ? Ask for fish tacos. They aren’t on the menu .. but fish is on the menu and they always have corn tortillas. They’ll make you a plate of fish tacos for dinner.

That’s a nice surprise. They serve beer, as well, if you are so inclined to have one. The salsa is pretty good. I’d bump the stars up but the one complaint that I’ve had for years is their chips.

I’ve been told that they make them well in advance. They’re always crunchy and hard. Fresh tortilla chips would really make the dining experience much better.

Well, the drink was good, the rice was bland, didn't have a Mexican taste to it. The chicken enchiladas didn;t have enough seasoning and were a little dry. The taco shells should be homemade so they do not go soggy in a matter of 2 or 3 minutes, but the ground beef was nice. For them not to be so busy, they were slow. The fries were soggy, the shrimp looked out of a box and the fish too. The inside was okay but could use a real touch of Mexico to make it seem more festive. And the manager should know more about the history if she is going to run the place. And the one waiter they had, he needs to learn to serve from the right and not reach over drinks and he was by himself so I gave him a little credit. His performance should have left him with a 3 dollar tip but...

A small establishment with a home town feel. Serving Tex-mex and Mexican cuisine at a reasonable price. When you spot an older building with a packed parking lot, it is worth investigating. I gave four of five stars for being a very good locals hangout for lunch. It was a solid dining experience and I doubt you would be disappointed with this local business. I make a point of dining in local restaurants and not big chain venues when traveling. The atmosphere is due to the warm people and not the gimmicks of a chain restaurant; who may dress their employees in ridiculous outfits, trying to convince you they are "authentic". I found my meal to be both flavorful and satisfying. I did not...
