Great new international spot in an unassuming location. The surrounding area is nothing much to look at but the main attractions are inside anyway. Very modern and sleek, without being sterile looking or overdone. We noticed this spot on a Monday somewhat late. There are very few good options for food on Mondays in SA, so I figured I'd give them a shot to see what they could do.
Service: I didn't know what to expect because service can be a miss quite frequently in this day and age, but they were VERY hospitable and welcoming. Offering fresh bread and a delicious basil whipped butter for us, checking in frequently and even neatly wrapping up our to-go boxes themselves. It went above and beyond my expectations for sure. Now, onto the food.
Food: The food options have great international flair that extends as far as Korea. And trust me, the chefs here absolutely have their meat techniques down. The chicken sandwich is probably the juiciest I've ever had, and the pork belly was outstanding. I will definitely have to go back for the basque cheesecake next time around!
Critique: Very minor suggestions for the future. First- it would be nice to see a few more fresh/veggie dish options to balance out the rich and indulgent options that make up most of the menu. Second- Don't get me wrong, I did like the fries. But I do want to suggest maybe doing a thicker cut fry and maybe using a couple extra steps to ensure they are extra crispy, following the trend of "pomme frites" being an elevated French fry, rather than an after thought. This would be a great improvement, especially since they feature "truffle fries" on their menu.
All in all, it was more than worth the money I spent and I hope people will stop by and try out Anhelo Bistro when they...
Read moreWow – this restaurant absolutely blew us away! Everything we had was incredibly fresh and packed with flavor. We started with the calamari and French onion soup, both of which were perfection. I ordered the Anhelo ceviche and my husband went with the burger, and we couldn’t stop talking about how delicious everything was. Honestly, there wasn’t a single thing we tried that was even just “okay” – it was all amazing.
Even the sweet tea my husband ordered was delicious, which says a lot! You can really tell how much care they put into every detail. They’re pretty new, and I’m so glad we stumbled upon this locally owned gem.
We’ll definitely be coming back soon because I still have my eye on their tartare and carpaccio – two dishes I love but rarely find at this level of quality in San Antonio. If you’re looking for a spot that’s fresh, elevated, and absolutely worth...
Read moreI tried this spot for the first time last night. I must say this is some of the best food I had since moving here in 2018. Our waiter was super helpful and guided us towards some of his favorite choices. We started with Anhelo Ceviche. The fish was super fresh and the dish surpassed one of my favorite ceviche spots down on the coast. Next, I had the Smoked Truffle Mushroom Risotto with chicken. I am not a huge mushroom guy, but this is possibly the best dish I ever had. Every bite was packed with flavor and the hint of smoke brought everything together. My wife had the Grilled Spanish Octopus which was equally delicious. This place is an absolute gem and I cant wait...
