They chose not to honor the military discount of the wives of retired Army guys! They took back our receipts and removed it!
Quite an embarrassing moment at the end of our meal! Please read on.
We met at SG to celebrate a friend who was visiting from out of town, my husband’s recovery after 3 weeks hospitalized, and our ongoing friendship. The husbands as well as our friend are retired Army folks. We have remained as good friends over the years.
The service was impeccable; Dawn was very attentive to our wants. The salads were good, served as each of us requested. The salmon was delicious but the two steaks were medium rare but tough as leather. Dawn brought out a thick slice of a delicious cheesecake for one of the ladies who was also celebrating her birthday, along with extra plates and spoons for all of us.
Aside from being disappointed at the quality of the steaks in a famous steakhouse, I am giving this review only 3 stars because of the confusion and embarrassment they caused us when it was time to pay our separate bills. Dawn brought the bills for two of the couples and for our friend from out of town with their military discount. However, our bill was split allowing the discount only to my husband since I had an official paper pass (I lost my ID card while my husband was hospitalized at BAMC and the appointment to get a replacement was set for mid-June.) Dawn explained that her manager instructed her that only real ID cards were accepted, not papers. Since this was an unusual situation, we asked to speak to her manager. Soon a young lady, whom we had met at the hostess station upon our arrival, came by to talk to us. She informed us VERY ASSERTIVELY (meaning rudely) that their policy of military discount applied only to retirees and active duty, not to the spouses, and how they could get into real trouble if they did not follow this policy. And, lo and behold, they proceeded to take away ALL the bills and remove the discounts from the spouses portion. We were flabbergasted. Never, in all our years as military spouses, had any of us been denied our military discount in such an embarrassing manner. And yet, we stood strong and proud in front of all who heard this incident, just as we have always done for our military husbands during their years of service to this country.
We paid our bills, and we gave Dawn a well deserved generous tip. I haven’t even looked at my receipt to see how they figured out the discount for my husband’s...
Read moreWhen we went there the server was inattentive. Didn't really pop up at all throughout the night. When we first were even seated we had to go back and wait again to be seated a second time because they claimed our table wasn't actually ready. (this wouldn't be a big deal but my mom's handicapped so it was silly to have to make her move that much unnecessarily. ) when we got the food my mom said her steak was well done and tough (when she'd asked for medium rare) but she ate it anyway cause she hates complaining. We went through dinner and at the end of the night the server gave us our checks. It was my mom, me and my sister. They separated each check for us. First they gave my sister an exact copy of my mom's ticket when her balance was 15$ more then hers. But then after they fixed it they messed up my mother's check. My mom had a birthday credit of 25$ through laundries and also a 25$ gift card. Her total was $56 and some change. She handed him an extra 20$ to cover the remaining $6. He came back. Threw her recipet down and walked away, and said he'd come back for the remaining balance. When we checked it said she owed still 19$. How the hell does that make sense? We looked around for the waiter but he never returned so we had to get a hold of a random waitress. She was the only kind person through the night. She got a manager's help. When the manager came around he said it was because the waiter tried to charge free waters to my mom's ticket, (what does that have to do with literally anything? His response made absolutely no sense) But said he would fix it and bring her change back shortly. She should have gotten back like 14 dollars back but he showed up with 18$ in hand. To be honest we didn't even bother saying anything at that point. This restaurant locations service is undoubtedly unprofessional and rude. If you guys were short like 4$ one night in y'all's tills you know why. Thank you to the one sweet waitress who helped us. You were very kind if you read this. I'm sorry you work with such...
Read moreDisappointing visit this time.
First of all, you can't believe the website. It said that they had an early dining menu good until 6. When we arrived they said not at their location but their location is not listed with the others that do not participate with that promotion.
The website also states that they have happy hour all day on Sunday. But it only lists five or six locations that actually have it. Out of their hundreds of locations they only have five or six locations that actually have a happy hour all day on Sunday. What a shame.
That was disappointing.
The next thing we ordered was our drinks which came out just fine. Our next visit to the table from the waitress included our first course. I had Caesar salad. The dressing was thin, watered down and tasteless. I would have asked for more dressing but the waitress never came back around. She finally did show up to pick up the plates but by that time we ate the tasteless salad.
Next course included the steaks. they looked good and smelled good but were not hot enough to melt the butter they had plopped on top. They also had a very thick layer of salt. But worst of all, the steaks had been over brined. The edges were all grainy and mushy while the center remained tough and stringy. It was a little bit disappointing. The dinner sides were way over cooked and dried out. I really couldn't believe that they would actually put it on the plate.
Again I couldn't find the waitress or get the attention of the passing hostesses, so I called the restaurant from the table. The waitress then appeared. We paid and went home.
I didn't complain while we were at the restaurant. After all, it was my birthday and I wanted to have a good time. But of all of our annual visits to Saltgrass Steakhouse on my birthday and other special occasions, this was, if by far the most outstanding disappointment...
