This is actually My second review for Blanco BBQ. My Wife and I had an appointment to make and decided to call in an order to be ready. My Wife called to order 5 brisket sandwich combos. The male on the phone said We needed to go through the drive thru to order brisket sandwiches. They can ONLY be ordered there. We have never heard this before from any other restaurants. I thought maybe the business was super busy or packed inside since Monday night football was about an hour away. Pressed for time We decided to stop anyway since the group had voted for this business personally. I'm from Kansas City Missouri and Blanco BBQ brisket sandwich is the closest I've had that reminds Me of home. And I do mean the only one! We pulled into the drive thru and noticed that it wasn't busy like I had previously thought. No long lines but a decent amount of vehicles. The parking lot wasn't nearly full. We ordered the sandwiches and while waiting I asked the Lady who was getting the drinks together what was so special about having to order brisket sandwiches in the drive thru only. She looked confused and said what did I mean. I repeated the conversation with the male on the phone. She said She didn't know or even heard of that. The Gentleman that was working behind Her was listening and said he had never heard of that before either. That wasn't cool at all. I will find another restaurant to visit. This is My 2nd bad review. It may not be a big deal for some folks and that's fine but My time is important. Time is $$$ to some and I as well. The 15min it took Me to drive there it could have been ready. All I needed to do was come in, wait maybe 2-3 minutes and away I go out the door. Instead 15min drive time and 7-8 min of waiting for order to be prepared. Shame. Bad a$$ brisket sandwich but uncool when treating customers with respect instead of wasting their time. I'm...
Read moreNo fried food. Went there with family on a Sunday afternoon. My father-in-law was hankering for their chicken fried steak. My wife wanted fried okra. My mouth was watering for onion rings. We were all disappointed. The cashier told us, "No fried foods today." Later, I saw a plate go by with fried food on it. I figured that maybe they had fixed the problem. Went back up to order some okra and onion rings and was told the same thing, "No fried foods." The cashier even checked with the guys on the line. Same answer. I walked over to the heat lamp table where they set orders ready for pickup (remember, it's a BBQ place, counter service only.) There are several plates full of fried food. I ask one of the guys, "How can there be no fried food when there are several plates sitting right in front of me full of fried food?" He told me those were old orders, I guess from before whatever the problem was happened. Did he expect me to believe those plates had been sitting there for over 15 minutes? Mighty suspicious.
Let’s talk about my wife’s turkey po-boy. I grew up near New Orleans. My wife grew up in New Orleans. I’ve known po-boys. I’ve made po-boys and they’ve been my meals. That was no po-boy. It was a few slices of dry turkey on a hoagie roll. Po-boys are served on French bread, not hoagie rolls. It was dry and undressed. No mayo, no lettuce, no tomato, nothing.
The BBQ was okay, but it wasn't a patch on what I've had in Lockhart. Also, when you use a card, you have the option of entering a tip amount. Not unusual, not convinced about tipping for counter service, but that's another story. The real question is, why is there also a tip jar at the cashier? Is the cashier not included in tips, or is that for cash customers?
Overall, disappointed and nothing compels a...
Read moreI had extremely high expectations coming into this place and was sorely disappointed. Seeing as after I ordered my food and went to grab my drink, my order was being called I should have known. I ordered the lean brisket. As you can tell this is certainly not lean. I would be embarrassed if this is my restaurant serving brisket like this. My friend ordered the same. His pieces were gray dry and was given to him like chunks of pot roast. I had a few pieces like that on my plate too. I had a little more left over my plate I didn't even finish it. To the owner and your chef. Oak and pecan is the wood you use? And your Chef, is from New York? I won't say he can't cook barbecue because my father was from New Jersey. And had a barbecue joint in Irving, Texas. But he definitely had the credits to back up his barbecue. Dallas weekly and Texas monthly. I'm guessing it's a good thing. That most of the residents in that area don't know what good barbecue is. Now I will be fair, the only thing I tried was your brisket. Never again will I have it. I did get my order corrected and got my lean barbecue but even that tasted foul and dry. Seeing the trailer parked out behind the restaurant I'm wondering if you broil your brisket and put flavoring. I don't see a smoker and seeing that you have wood floor if you actually had a smoker the whole inside of your joint would smell like smoke. My mashed potatoes were runny and chunky. Didn't finish those. The macaroni, was halfway decent. Both my friend and I were seconds away of asking for a refund because this had absolutely been the worst barbecue we have tried in this town. And like I said as I began my review I had high hopes...
