Let me start with saying, the service was fantastic. The servers were very attentive and legitimately looked concerned with our unspoken disappointment when our food arrived. It's because of them that I didn't just give a one star.

Now on to the food. As many others, we looked at the rating before going, and saw it had almost a perfect 5 star, but also figured we would see how much traffic they had before going in. How bad can you mess up breakfast anyway right?

The parking lot was full so we gave them a chance. We proceeded to order a plate of Huevos Rancheros, which is their morning special, and chilaquiles. We should have known something was off when the server asked if we wanted the sauce on the side for the chilaquiles. The server also asked what kind of tortillas we wanted with our Huevos Rancheros. When we asked to just have the ones the eggs were mounted on, she said they don't (so with them asking if we wanted the sauce on the side, and the eggs not mounted on the tortilla, we were essentially being served fried eggs with stuff on the side, not Huevos Rancheros). Anyway, we asked if it was possible to have the eggs mounted on the tortilla and the server was very accommodating.

While we waited for our food, we indulged on the salsa and chips, which were actually really good. The salsa was hot (temperature) and the chips were homemade. It was actually a bit spicy, which was also a positive for us.

And then the food arrived... utter disappointment as soon as we saw it. 1) The "Chilaquiles" were tostadas covered in melted yellow cheese making them look more like Nachos. The "sauce" that would make them Chilaquiles was barely noticeable and more chunky than salsa. Still, more like Nachos. The tortillas were more strips of tostadas. That plate was essentially migas (which are eggs mixed fried tortilla) with nacho cheese on top. 2) The Huevos Rancheros were okay looking, but again, the Ranchero sauce was more chunky than salsa (like a heated up pico de gallo); basically chunks of tomatoes and oil. The fried tortilla was well done at least and the eggs were exactly how we ordered them. For both plates, the sides of potatoes were okay, but merely basic; no Mexican flavor to them at all; just cubed potatoes. The sides of refried beans tasted good, but they were a little greasy for our liking.

Looking at all the plates around us, it was evident this is TEXMEX restaurant through and through. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was definitely much lesser quality than expected being that their parking lot was full. And, on a side note, both of us ended up with mad heartburn even hours after eating, which doesn't commonly happen.

So, if you're in the mood for some average, greasy TexMex food that will cause you heartburn, this is the place for you. If you are looking for real Mexican food though, might wanna try your...

Frist time and last time. We walked in a group of 6. We put two tables together since the tables were small. The waitriess asked another person behind us if they were going to serve us. She then preceeded to say, " I'm sorry I am going to be on top of you because we told her (some one else in our group) they needed to cleaned the tables and put them together." Her tone of voice, her face, and her body language, you can tell she was already upset. I said all you had to say was excuse me. (since she said it right where my 12 yrs old son was sitting as she lean over in front of him to remove plates.) She got upset and went off a little louder and said we have a sign right there that says they need to clean the tables before we sit. (I guess wait to be seated) Repeated again how we were supposed to wait. I'm not sure what the sign said, nor did I see it. I did shh her because she was getting loud. She did get mad because I shh her. She walked away, still ranting. It is a small place and by this time everyone in there was looking at us. She then told us she would not be taking our order, and no one there would be taking our order. Yes, my husband raised his voice to her, but that is when she kept repeating herself like a broken record. My husband told her to be quite already. Long story short. We were told they had good food, so we were looking to try it out. Good food comes with great customer service even if you are having a bad day. If u did not want to service us because we did not follow instructions that I never saw, you could have asked someone else to help us. There is no need to get ghetto and threaten that no one will be serving us. After experiencing her poor customer service, we would not want to eat there. If you like unprofessional service with attitude, I guess this is the place to go eat at. Good food will not keep people coming with that kind of service. Do not ask me about this restaurant because I will not recommend anyone...

I decided to try out the breakfast tacos from Old Hwy 90 after exploring West Sides Castorville Rd. My first stop was the highest rated “Chelita’s”.

The first experience in any restaurant is the location. I was greeted with friendly staff and placed my usual breakfast taco order.

I waited shortly for my order and was greeted by a small annoying roach residing at the location. Kept a close eye on it but when I let my guard down and looked back on the floor this little guy was trying to go up my pants.

I was brave and ate my breakfast tacos relying on heat to kill any eggs or germs roaches might spread. I was impressed with the texture and flavor of the chorizo. It reminded me off my homelands V&V chorizo. Its hard to find good chorizo in SATX, its either too greasy or too dry. The flour tortillas weren’t the best. The beans weren’t the best. I still recommend Julio’s on Bandera Rd but this place has good chorizo.

My worries are the residents. Its that bad that they come and greet you when you wait for your order. I know almost every place has a...

Okay so I have three tacos I use to initially judge Mexican restaurants. Potato & Egg cause that’s a classic and if you mess that up how can I trust you? Carne guisada because that’s all about getting the spice right AND slow cooking the beef correctly, you cant rush art and a tough carne guisada taco tells me a lot. Lastly a chicharron taco because I feel like that not the most common taco so its easy to slack off on the "less popular" tacos. SO! Where does Chelitas stand? Part of me wants to tell you this place sucks because its already too busy and its getting tough to get a table at my new favorite restaurant as is! So all I have to say is if you hate flavor and delicious tortillas youre gonna hate this place! Lets face it, do you REALLY want to have the best tacos in San Antonio just so your standards are raised and everywhere else now falls short? Its hard to see 4k and go back to VHS, so stay away from these 4k tacos for your tastebuds…

Making my way through 20 local restaurants and this was my first stop. I love that it’s small and cozy. It definitely gave me “12 years old living off Buena Vista vibes.” The chips were warm and fresh. Not stale at all and the green salsa was a thumbs up from my husband. He loved that it came warm. We ordered 2 Mexican plates and loved that everything is served as if you’re a guest in someone’s home. Little things like that matter and I feel like you’re more apt to find these touches in places like this vs chain or larger establishments. The puffy taco was fresh and I say this because I often find the shell is old or cooked prior. Veggies were nice and cold and when a place uses American cheese instead of cheddar, it’s always better! Also when a place uses 100% avocado with zero filler, you can’t go wrong. Lastly, the fajitas were tasty. My son gives them a 7.5/10. Tortillas were hot and fluffy just like me 😉.
