Yummy, Yummy, Yummy – those are the only words that come to mind when I think of La Calavera! This restaurant delivers pure magic with every visit. No words can truly capture how incredibly delicious the food is here. This was my third time visiting, and as always, the experience was nothing short of extraordinary.
Whether it’s the Suchipulpos, Churiqueso, or Guacamole, their appetizers have secured a permanent place in my list of all-time favorites. Yesterday, I brought eight guests for lunch, and we had an absolute blast. We ordered the Meat Platter, Chicken Skewers, and the Menudo Soup with pork feet — and let me tell you, every single dish was out of this world. The meat was juicy, the flavors vibrant, and their salsas delivered a perfect blend of heat and tanginess that left us craving more.
La Calavera’s food holds a unique magic — it’s like my tongue becomes a willing captive to their heavenly flavors. I truly wish I could meet the chef one day, just to shake the hand that crafts such divine meals.
A very special thanks also goes to the young lady who served us. Her service was exceptional — not only was she incredibly kind and attentive, but she also delivered our food at lightning speed. It’s rare to experience such a perfect balance of amazing food and outstanding service.
And here’s the best part: for a party of eight people, our entire meal cost just under $250. For food of this quality and quantity, that price is simply unbelievable — an absolute steal for a delicacy of this level!
The ambiance is equally captivating, transporting you straight into the heart of authentic Mexican cuisine. When the food, service, and atmosphere come together like this, it’s pure, unforgettable magic.
La Calavera deserves every bit of praise — and an award for the incredible dining experience they create. All my friends and colleagues who joined me couldn’t stop raving about it. We’re already looking forward to...

The service is top notch, and to start your dining experience off they bring an appetizer instead of the more widely used chips and salsa. The three house-made salsa selection to try with the sausage appetizer were full of flavor and varying levels of spice.
The ambiance feels like you just stepped inside a cafe in the heart of Mexico, and the food is exceptional. The portions are large! Our quesobirria and vampiro tacos were overflowing with mouthwatering, slow roasted meat with both sautéed and raw onions, cilantro, radishes and fresh cut limes served on the side.
Some of the best, if not THE best Mexican food I have tried in the United States and easily in the top of my top 5 restaurants I've tried in San Antonio. The prices are very fair and the server was attentive, welcoming, and considerate. And they serve THE best pineapple agua fresca I've ever had in my life.
I will be going back frequently and once you try it here,...

Speaking of the food—wow! The Torta Garbancero was an absolute masterpiece. The flavors were bold and perfectly balanced, with fresh, high-quality ingredients that made every bite a delight. The bread was soft yet crispy, and the savory fillings created the perfect combination of textures. It’s obvious that the kitchen puts great care and passion into every dish.
