In the not so distant shadow of the Church of the Little Flower bell towers sits a simple little westside Mexican restaurant that goes by the mayan language girl's name Yatzil. Don't worry. Even the Onstar folks had trouble finding and pronouncing this one. A very busy parking lot at 1:30 pm yielded only a couple of empty spaces and a down on his fortune beggar soliciting spare change.

I had anticipated the likelihood that Spanish would be the conversational mode here and was once again grateful to Senorita Barrera of PBS channel 9 for piquing my interest in learning Spanish in grade school. The rather spartan duo chromatic interior resonated with a no nonsense comedor demeanor and service that did not quite match this unarticulated tenet via redundant requests and long absences of service.

Undaunted we enjoyed our somewhat bland b&c nachos especially considering that the chips and salsa sampled as a preamble to our nachos were store bought and insipid. Their green salsa casera was a much better bet as were the dilatory plastic cup of twice requested jalapenos.

Yes. We know the "be cool" rule on Covid impacted service. However, that only goes so far when it appears that other tables, particularly parties that came in after us, are receiving twice as many service follow up visits. And I swear there was no untoward expulsion of gastric wind occurring at our table either. Honest!

I enjoyed my yellow cheese, tex-mex enchiladas that I integrated with the very tender carne guisada hunks for a tasty enchilasada. Engorged with picadillo puffy, rice that would make Gilroy residents smile, and too hot to handle fresh flour and corn tortillas were notable plate occupants.

I am assuming that the cook is just looking out for our health, but 3 of the plate's comestible components were in dire need of salt if not other seasonings as well. I should probably have requested the ubiquitous seasoning response to so many foods of Mexico with some juicy lime wedges for a mega spritz.

Yatzil supposedly means a "loved one". A sentiment I wanted to apply to my visit here. Coming close, but the proximal, Fabuloso floor mopping with its cloyingly sweet smell during our lunch obviated any chance of a Yahtzee for Yatzil.

Moderate service, respectable portions, inexpensive prices. ...

Very busy the first day I went in the morning!! No seats but I'm the only one so the front table one chair was ok!! American breakfast fresh all around pancakes 🥞 Not Frozen!!! Delicious and fluffy add their oatmeal so big the small bowl?!?!? Only thing is theu don't have brown sugar so I will bring my own no worries, add a migas taco full taco!!! Way too much food and was full the whole day other than thirst I was full all day after this!! Staff is very nice, helpful, accommodating, they all seem to help each other and the others tables did have to wait for.my waitress to come to may table just to ask her for the brown sugar?? Very cool of them, I didn't hear of any people complaining about any orders or anyone coming back to return something cold or a wrong order??? I went back for lunch and this time I sat at a booth that is accommodating to your fit and again the meal was large had to take some home for another day as I was full for the rest of the day! Lunch was great also!! And they were busy!! Bring your stretchy pants or double stretchy pants!👖lol😆😄 Has one wheelchair restroom per gender good size and so there is a bit of waiting.... They also have highchairs for children, I did not look for a child menu or if it was vegan friendly, I was there for me and when I go back for my 3 time as I have a doctor's appointment down the street I eat here, I will check for things for others that may want to check out this...

Came for the breakfast and they had a $2.99 Huevos Rancheros plate. The value was great and the food was hot. The waitress was on her game and very attentive to refills and anything else that was needed. That's the good. The bad... Well the restaurant was super cold and they were adjusting the temperature periodically. But, it wasn't effective because it should have been set last nigh. So yes, I can and was wearing a jacket however, the issue was, the place was cold, which in turn made the tables cold, and this made me hurry up and eat my food at a quicker pace. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros well done, and they were. I ordered the machacado taco on the side and it was fresh and hot so I ate that first to avoid it getting cold. The eggs cooled down quick and the beans just got cold. The flour tortillas wrapped in aluminum got cold quick also. The papa's stayed warm, and the coffee too because they kept refilling it. Overall, 3...
