The only reason there is a 1star is because this site would only allow me to post a review if I gave a star. I would have given negative stars if I could. So on that note, my husband and I have been in the food industry for years. We came here having reading the reviews and thought, "this will be enjoyable and affordable" both of which were not the case at all! We waited for approximately 15 mins to get a menu or even a waitress to ask for drink orders, as it was a seat yourself establishment. We asked our waitress for chips and queso, and she then told us there was no queso. What Mexican food restaurant doesn't serve queso!?! #1 weird. But, okay moving on. After we established that and ordered chips, and were pointed, literally pointed to the salsa bar, we were able to grub a bit. Another 20 mins drug on until finally the waitress came to ask for our orders. I simply asked what was in the taco salad, as every restaurant can differ in their ingredients. The waitress seemed to have a mental break down because she did not know, and to her it was "too busy" to go ask someone who did know this information. Mind you, there was only about 15 consumers total in the store at the time, 5 servers on the floor, and 2 behind the check out. I then said don't worry I will take 2 cheese enchiladas a la cart( by themselves) and my husband did the breakfast burritos. She actually thank me for changing my order!!!! What!?! 40 mins later our order shows up... my enchilada cheese was melted, but the corn tortillas were cold and I coincidentally had beans, rice, and lettuce on my plate. My husbands burrito was ice cold people. I mean ice cold. He asked the waitress to take it back and heat it up, then said no, just take it back he didn't want it. That can make you SICK guys! Depending on what meat you have in your food, that type of service and food preparation can hurt someone! We tried for another 15+mins to pay our waitress. It took us having to flag another waitress down to pay for the terrible service, and even more horrendous food. Another punch in the gut is that our food we ordered cost us more than advertised!!! This place is the absolute worst! I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst...
Read moreJune 2025 Revisited Balito's for some breakfast tacos.
I really enjoyed the salsa bar at this restaurant. It's extensive, they have a good choice of hot sauce (heat of the sauce noted by the number of peppers on the sign). They also have additional complementart peppers and condiments that you can pick up and take back to your table to have with your meal.
When we arrived, we were quickly greeted, our drinks brought to us, and order was out and on our table within 10 minutes.
I ended up getting a couple of potato and egg tacos. See the pictures. By the way, you pay at the counter when you are done. At least this is what I have done on multiple occasions to Balito's.
I hope your experience is a good or better than mine.
April 2025 Stopped in for a couple of tacos, potatoe and egg, and a bacon and egg.
December 2024 Decided to try someplace new for us. We visited Los Balito's located near the Bitters Rd and West Ave intersection.
We arrived for breakfast tacos. The parking lot is shared and plentiful for all of the stores located in the same shopping center. The dining area and tables were very clean. While the video and picture show the place near empty, just know we arrived early, and I also waited for some people to clear out.
I ordered a migas taco and bacon, potatoe, and egg taco. My guest ordered a potato, bean, and egg taco. The tacos were very good in size, portion, and taste.
There is a salsa bar where you can choose which salsa and spicy level you want to add to your food. The assessment of "heat" seemed to be accurate.
We paid at the counter and also noticed they have lunch specials for a reasonable price. I expected we'll be back to try one of their dishes.
I've included some pictures for your review. I hope that if you decide to visit, your experience is as...
Read moreThis is the second time I've been here and I was let down again. The first time was when the pandemic had just started and San Antonio was just issued the stay home, work safe orders. That first time we want to give people especially locally our help by buying from them. So the first time the food came out really bad. It tasted bad and was served cold etc. I thought by giving them a second chance in the future they might do better right? Wrong!!!! I was let down even worse the second time around. I used their online ordering service, placed the order at 8:35 pm; and then I got notified at 8:50 pm that my order would be ready by 9 pm. So I take off and when I arrive at 9 pm I was greeted and the older lady asked me "are you placing a order?", then I said "No, I am picking up a order.". So then she checks on my order and says "OK, it is not ready yet sir, I will let you know when it is ready". So I say OK and take a seat in their dining room. I'm their literally for 30 minutes watching others come in, place orders and pick up their orders before mine until finally a young lady from their staff realizes that I've been waiting this whole time. So they go and check on my food and still nothing. I go to the counter to see what the heck is going on, and my order was right their in front of the older lady and she says "oh, I got confused sir, your order was ready when you got here". I lost my mind, I couldn't believe that she wouldn't realize it and I waited 30 minutes for nothing. The food was obviously cold. This will be the last time I ever go back. I will never use them. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. They clearly don't know what they are doing. It's like chickens running around with their heads cut off. I will tell all my family, friends and co-workers to...
