In one of the most heart breaking reviews that I have had to make, a once stellar 5/5 establishment underwent a drastic transformation, attributed solely to the owner's demeanor. A client and I, hailing from overseas, sought to explore the essence of American craft beer and chose Big Hops with high expectations. Regrettably, the place was a mere shadow of the vibrant spot I revered 10 months ago. Our attempt to indulge in the uniquely American Pizza Machine in the was thwarted when the pizza failed to materialize. Playfully suggesting a beer instead at of the Pizza at closing, we were unexpectedly met with disdain from the owner, declaring our business unwelcome and we should never return to his establishment. Bewildered and confused, I inquired about the aggressive stance on what was obviously a joke, especially after being a patron for the last decade, only to hear, "I am at an age where I don't have to put up with any of that stuff." Despite clarifying our lighthearted intent, he adamantly refused tolerance. After telling him that it was obviously a joke with the bartender who I have known almost a year an attempt to reconcile, the owner eventually admitted he did not read the situation incorrectly. But unfortunately the owner's unyielding stance embarrassed my client from Vietnam, prompting our departure. It's disheartening to witness a flagship location, once a regular haunt, succumb to mismanagement, shedding light on the closures of other branches. All this turmoil over a below-average pizza,...
Read moreI came here with work friends this evening and was here for a few hours. We were sitting outside and were not being waited on. We were going inside and waiting in line for drinks, which was fine. The tab was in my name and at the end of the night the total came out to around $110. My friends and I were putting cash in the tip jar throughout the evening. I tipped the bartender a couple of dollars with each round of beers, so probably $10-12 total. I also tipped the bartender an additional $5 when I closed the tab. My friends and I were finishing our beers when a woman (a patron of the bar, not an employee) suddenly appeared at our table and demanded to know who Michael K was. When I replied that I was him, she began to verbally accost me in front of my friends for the $5 tip I left the bartender. I was not sure who this woman was or how she knew my name. I explained that my friends and I had been leaving tips throughout the evening and that we weren't being waited on, but she continued to yell and argue with me until I finally gave the bartender a $20 bill to put an end to the situation. The bartender was aware of the situation and didn't try to intervene. I also think she must have given my name to the woman who accosted me, which is unacceptable. My friends and I were having a great night until this occurred. I will not...
Read moreDo you love good qualify craft beer? You'll LOVE Big Hops Growler Station. You can buy a growler from their inventory or bring your own from home. I frequently stop by on my way home from work to pick up some new deliciousness they have on tap, and enjoy from the comfort of my own couch.
The only downside, they only have about 3 or 4 sit down tables so it's not a great place to meet up with a large group. Plenty of bar and counter space to either stand or pull up a chair. I've taken my own lawn chairs before and the owners didn't have a...
