This place is a gem in the long list of Mexican restaurants throughout San Antonio. Listed on many sites for having one of the best Carne Guisada tacos, my sister and I had to try it. Like most avid foodies looking to score that impossible best taco, we tried this location with a lot of anticipation and excitement. The location has this pulled of the west feel with booths and round tables. Service was really good and fast too. Like most locations we venture to, to find the best taco we stay with the staples. This location we had the Barbacoa, Carne Guisada, Tripas, Chicharron con Huevo, and Chorizo con Huevo. Barbacoa was a bit dry that day and the tripas a little greasy. The chicharron and chorizo were good. However, for me, the Carne Guisada was the best. So why 4 stars? Atmosphere, service, cleanliness and the Carne Guisada. Any where you go, the barbacoa is going to be hit or miss. Always! Same thing for the tripa. Chicarron and chorizo are staples in every Hispanic home for multiple uses, so you can't expect to much out of those. Carne Guisada is tradition mixed with the proper ingredients, time, and cooking. This was a treat. It wasn't the best for me (ok...top 5), however it was really good. They have a really good varied menu, and our experience here was specifically targeted at Taco's. More specific their Carne Guisada taco. This place is worth a try for any of the other menu items if that is your desire. However, if your in San Antonio, and you are in search of the Best Carne Guisada, this has to be on your list of top 5 places for the...
Read moreWe stop by real quick for breakfast to have a couple of tacos and coffee. They were not busy so we were able to sit down right away. As we were sitting down the waitress came and brought us a menu and asked us what we would like to drink( coffee ). When she returned with our coffee she took my wife's order then she was taking my order and I guess she didn't understand what Taco I was talking about because it was potato and egg taco I had cheese and bacon added to it. Then I told her and Spanish and then she understood. When she returned with our order I had asked her for some more coffee (I'm a big coffee drinker ). As I was waiting I notice that she was taking care of other tables and taking orders then she came and asked if we need anything else I told her I was still waiting on my refill on coffee and I guess she didn't understand or she just forgot. Well I can say the tacos were good but the service needs a little bit more Improvement and taking care of the customers needs in a timely manner. I will come back and give it a second chance let's see what...
Read moreLupita's on Culebra after the police station is small family owned local Tex Mex restaurant. A local favorite. We ordered the red cheese enchiladas. They had a lot of flavor and was tasty. We ordered a bean and cheese for my daughter which of course is usually the sane everywhere. My taco salad was a small portion but surprisingly filling and I was full. Nothing to write home about except I always love taco salads with the crunchy shell. Right now Las Palapas has the best tasting taco salad in San Antonio. But this restaurant is a local favorite and I recommend this restaurant. Inexpensive and tasty food. The salsa my wife loves so much we bought a jar of it on the way out. Its a garlic onion salsa that is very good and not spicy hot but just has a nice warm salsa soup type of taste. Our server was nice but we had to asl for chis and salsa, napkins and silver ware. Still a good experience for a local Mexican restaurant. The waitress said its busy on the weekends but very open...
