2of20 San Antonio breweries (in no particular order)
The ambiance was a bit too hip hop for me. It drew a very eclectic group of clients though. It had a fair mix of old and young people. They should also mix up the music if that is the case. While I like the cross generational customer base they should pander to us older folk a bit better too. I want some 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s music mixed in with all the rap/hip hop. The fried pickles were different than your standard fried pickles and in a good way.
*Daytona's best brown ale - slight hoppy and sweet nose, mild hoppy flavor, a tad bitter but pretty decent brown ale. This is the type of beer that a group of picky drinkers could agree to drink but may not be everyone's first choice. If it were a drinking night, this would probably be one I would order as a 3rd or 4th beer because I wanted something different and felt froggy.
*mad house porter - slight sweet smokey floral nose. Smoky bitter taste. A bit hoppy for my taste in a porter.
*silver creek wheat - has an almost moldy wheat nose? It tasted like a decent wheat that was heavily watered down. It's like the ultralight of wheat but I doubt it had less calories.
*the ripper amber - Smoky, caramel nose. Slight smoke flavor that almost was instantly overpowered by bitterness. There was a flatness to it that was off putting too, I considered not finishing but such a fate should be differed to for only the most haneous of brew offenses.
*whirlwind thru Citra hazy ipa - nice hoppy citris nose. The flavor was good but again it tasted slightly watered down and didn't pack that ipa taste punch.
*visibly shook neipa - floral nose. The ipa punch comes through strong but feels like it falters after that. I don't know what that means exactly but that's how I feel. One could say the strong flavors don't linger and that could be a good or bad thing, for me it was impressive to pull off because I haven't really experienced that in an ipa that I...
Read moreI live in the area and have visited Mad Peckers on several occasions. Yesterday I was meeting some co workers and arrived before everyone else. I walked up to the bar area next to where the servers put in their orders, and was greeted with a huge smile and friendly waitress, this hasn’t always been my experience! She asked if I’d like to order and I wasn’t sure yet but she asked what type of beers I normally like to drink? We discussed some flavors and she made some suggestions, which I was very pleased about and decided on one of her suggestions. What I liked about this interaction was she was open and honest and had advised me she had not had not tried all of them as she was fairly new but based on what flavors I told her I was looking for she was able to make suggestions that she knew were similar. It was like having a conversation with a great friend! As I waited on my co workers to arrive she came by brought my beer out, I had the Locust Vanilla Bean Cider... it was excellent, she was attentive asked if I would like to order any appetizers while I waited, she made suggestions and put in my order quickly. There were quite a few people ordering as it was during the Happy hour, however during the entire evening we never felt like she was not meeting our needs. She provided excellent service, was attentive, made suggestions, was thoroughly engaged with us during our entire stay and we stayed for several hours! When we visit Mad Peckers again I will be sure to Sit in her area because She made our visit feel like we were among friends! Thank you for the great experience and service you made our night...
Read moreDisappointing, gross, and a bummer. Visiting from Houston and traveling with a small dog, we were interested in a dog friendly brewery that served pizza.
'Dog friendly' as defined by this establishment are 5 wobbly fly-swarmed picnic tables in front of the building. As we approached the entrance, we were stopped by a kind patron who advised that the restaurant was not actually dog friendly and the staff did not like dogs inside of the bar/restaurant.
With this in mind, I stayed outside waiting for a table free up. Luckily, the person who told us about the dog policy was leaving, so we scored their table. Otherwise, we'd be SOL. Upon verifying with a server, she confirmed, "Yeah, we don't care for the 'dog thing'. We don't like dogs inside."
My husband went inside and scanned a table-top QR code to access the menu, as they do not have tangible menus. We each ordered flat-tasting beer and mediocre pizza. Their pizza tasted the equivalent of a freezer, store-bought pizza. In any case, we couldn't finish our food or beer because, together, our 4 hands swatting at all of the flies were not enough to the let us comfortably consume what we paid for. Once the flies made it into our beer, we left. We're ashamed that we stayed as long as we did - that's on us (LOL).
Also, apparently, this not a family-friendly place as the staff was overheard EMPHATICALLY agreeing on the idea that families with children should not be allowed to visit restaurants. Weird and...
