Niki's Cafe — Restaurant in San Antonio

Very terrible experience here. Food was about to be served to me after it was in the microwave. Literally Right out the microwave then put in a bag to go. Mind you I’m also pregnant. I had to leave because I had an appointment down the street and told the cashier that I will be back for a refund. I left the plate there. When I got back and asked for the refund the cashier was really trying to give me the same plate I left there an hour ago. She said they couldn’t give me a refund. I told them I was not going to eat that. The lady cook in the back was trying to tell me she was only was putting it in the microwave to warm it up? For 10min going back and forth about how I wasn’t going to eat the plate. I said well I guess I’ll take tacos instead. I was also denied tacos. So no refund no tacos in exchange, and trying to make me take the same plate that’s been sitting there. Then the lady cook was telling me to go back after 3. That’s when they close. Then they are saying they can give me only half my money back And that they are missing out on money if they throw it away. I said “okay that’s not my problem”’. This lady cook then says in Spanish “that is your problem” and that “you need to cook at Home”. The audacity. So after like 20-25 of arguing about how I will not eat that plate the lady cook finally gives me my refund back. So not only was that food ugly but the service was trash as well. We went on a Sunday during lunch hour aster church. It was very dead. We were the only ones there. That made me nervous and I hoped it wouldn't be bad or plated store bought food. My impression was completely wrong. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about rude staff and dirty surroundings. I didn't notice either of these issues. The waitress was kind enough and the place was clean. They did have an urn with "ashes of problem customers". I thought that was a bit off putting. But it was meant as a joke. Didn't really matter much to me. Restaurant industry is definitely a high frustration job so I "get" it... I ordered the Nikis plate and it was very good. Everything tasted and looked homemade. I called in an order to go, lady on the phone said in 15 my order would be ready. When I arrived, I saw all these passive aggressive messages posted on the front counter like "here are the ashes of complaining customers" in an urn shaped vase.

After 30 I was given my food. When I made a comment about forget the tortillas just go ahead and give me only the caldo, because I had to leave.

Well, in conclusion, the food was good but the wait time is long. Do not mention anything about the food taking long, or you will get the stink eye. They say everything is made to order, but I saw how many times they use the microwave, since I was looking into the kitchen just waiting for my food to get out Lol. I...
