10 Stars Review for Urban Bird – North San Antonio
Urban Bird has officially raised the bar for what a chicken restaurant should be in San Antonio. The moment I stepped into this new spot on the north side, I knew it was going to be different. Clean, modern, welcoming, and full of energy — this place already feels like it’s here to stay. But what truly sets it apart is not just the vibe, it’s the food. And let me tell you, it is absolutely magnificent.
The sandwich we tried, the Sanda combo, deserves a spotlight of its own. This wasn’t just a sandwich — it was an experience. The perfect balance of flavors: the crunch of the pickles, the freshness of the coleslaw, and that kick of spice, all layered over chicken that was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was mouthwatering and left us wanting more. It was a sandwich that stands second to none in the city, period.
What impressed me the most was their dedication to halal chicken. This is huge for San Antonio. Finding authentic halal chicken options in a mainstream, stylish, and accessible restaurant like this is not something you come across on every corner. It shows that Urban Bird is not only about great food but also about inclusivity and serving a larger part of the community that has been longing for this option. For that alone, they deserve the community’s full support.
The menu itself is smart and thoughtful, built around flavor combinations that work. Nothing is overdone or gimmicky. It’s simple, but executed with excellence. And that’s what makes it so outstanding — it doesn’t try too hard; it just delivers delicious, high-quality food that hits the spot every single time.
Urban Bird isn’t just another restaurant; it’s quickly becoming the place to go if you want real, satisfying chicken dishes in San Antonio. It’s the kind of restaurant you’d proudly bring friends and family to, knowing they’ll walk away impressed. And in a city with so many options, that’s not easy to achieve. But Urban Bird has done it from day one.
So here’s to Urban Bird — a big, big, big, big, big round of applause for what they’re doing. From the incredible Sanda combo sandwich to the fact that they’re proudly serving halal chicken, this restaurant has cemented itself as a one-of-a-kind gem in San Antonio. Ten stars is not enough to capture how good it is. If you haven’t been yet, you’re...
Read moreI’ve been coming here since they opened and loved it. I’m sad to have to give them less than 5 stars but after tonight’s service, I feel like this has to be explained.
After first walking in, one employee walked to the front, scoffed and shook his head at me and my boyfriend while we waited to pick up our order (which was placed online ahead of time) and then walked off without saying a thing. We waiting for someone to just help us pick up our order and then we were told it would be a few minutes, which was absolutely fine so we grabbed our drink and took a seat. Once we got our order, we checked it and we had ordered their Chicken and Waffle with Nashville Hot (Plus Urban Fries) which has literally been our go to order since they opened because we love it. Unfortunately, when we opened the food we noticed that the chicken for the waffle was the heat level above Nashville. Which I tried before and it has an obvious darker color and a MUCH hotter heat level. and different scent. Upon figuring out that the order was wrong, we took the food back and told them that it was the wrong heat level and just wanted to have them change the tender. We didn’t want to make a big deal out of it but if you have ever tried the spice level above Nashville you would know there is a distinct difference, in both taste, smell and looks. The one who we gave the order to, took the food back to the guy who made it (which was also the same person who scoffed at us) and I listened and watched through the clear glass panel and he kept trying to say that the spice was Nashville and argued about the seasoning “just being dark”. It was very unprofessional and honestly just rude. They eventually replaced the tender with the ‘correct one’ and you can still see the difference in the spice from the left over seasoning that was left in the bottom of the box from the old tender. The tender is still not Nashville hot it’s just the same seasoning, with just less on the tender. This was something that really left a bad taste in my mouth and it sucks because I used to love coming here but tonight’s service was beyond terrible. I've never come here and had service so bad like this, especially because I have seen how nice the owner and manger both are from the many times I've been here. This definitely is something that NEEDS to...
Read moreSan Antonio just got a game-changer with the opening of Urban Bird on the north side of the city. From the moment you walk in, you can sense that this is not just another chicken place — it’s a destination. The energy, the design, and most importantly, the food, all come together to create something special.
The standout for us was the Sanda combo sandwich. It’s hard to put into words how perfectly everything came together. The chicken was juicy and tender, cooked to absolute perfection, while the layers of pickles, coleslaw, and that touch of spiciness created a flavor profile that was bold yet balanced. This sandwich doesn’t just compete with others in the city — it sits on the throne. Nothing else even comes close.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Urban Bird is their decision to serve halal chicken. In a city as diverse as San Antonio, this is a tremendous step forward. Halal options are rare, and to see them offered in such a modern, mainstream restaurant is both refreshing and deeply appreciated. This choice alone will attract families and communities who otherwise struggle to find convenient halal dining.
Beyond the sandwich, the menu is crafted with a clear focus on flavor and quality. Everything feels intentional. There’s no excess, no fillers — just carefully thought-out dishes that hit the mark. It’s proof that sometimes less is more, and when done right, it leaves a lasting impression.
Urban Bird is not just filling a gap in the market, it’s setting a new standard. In a city where chicken spots are plentiful, none have done what Urban Bird has accomplished. It’s fresh, bold, and inclusive. This is the kind of place that becomes your go-to, not just because the food is great, but because the entire experience makes you want to come back.
For all of this, Urban Bird deserves nothing short of a standing ovation. A big, big, big, big, big round of applause to the team for not only bringing incredible flavor but also for embracing the community by serving halal chicken. Ten stars all the way — San Antonio finally has its chicken...
