The host and server were nice and accommodating (that's where the two stars come from), but the food was awful. The atmosphere was fine - there were a few groups celebrating birthdays so we got to hear the nice birthday song the staff sing. Be careful on a hot day though, because they only have a small portable AC unit that doesn't cool the whole space.

The cook for our table was incredibly sloppy, and it showed in the performance and taste of the food. The first bad sign was that the cook sloppily poured the sauce in the trays, spilling a lot on the table and even splashing it all over a guy in our party. Soon after, our food was just thrown on the cooking surface wildly and was not even cooked thoroughly/evenly - the scallops barely had a sear on the surface before being served to us and the middle was cold. Same thing for the filet mignon, except for when we asked for a well-done portion.

While serving the yakisoba, the cook dropped the noodles in one of the sauce trays before making it onto the plate. He did apologize for it, and we didn't want to make a big deal of it. It was just another hint of how sloppy food is prepared here. Everything we ate was cold in the middle. After the scallops we did ask that things be cooked more thoroughly, but the cook failed to make the adjustment.

Further adding to the undercooked food, all of it was bland. It's like they don't care to spice anything. Every other teppanyaki place we've been to has been delicious.

We love teppanyaki and really hoped this one would be good, but we would not recommend...

I'm an uber driver, I came here to take orders and it was cold, even though I was a druver and I was not allowed to go inside, so I waited at the door and at that time 2 or 3 employees were standing idly by and looking at me, but none of them came to help. After 10 minutes I managed to stop someone and asked them to call the manager. When the manager came, I told him that I had been waiting at the door for 10 minutes and that his staff did not come to help even though they were looking at me. and my order was already ready the moment I was there. He brought my order, I thanked him and said that I would report this situation in order not to have the same problem in the future. Hearing this, he suddenly said that I am not giving the order to you, cancel it and have someone else come to him. He insisted that he would not place the order, even though I told him many times that it was my right to report you even if I took the order. He said the reason was that I didn't want to report him, and I recorded what he said with a video. And what he said to me is if you're going to complain about me, I won't give you the order, cancel it and let someone else come. and i have a rating also he formally convicted me when he should have come and apologized for making me wait in the cold. I love this job, but sometimes such unprofessional managers steal our time and then give us bad ratings. but according to him i can't give him bad rating if i give he won't give...

Our server was lovely - very nice, very sociable, and chill. Our chef visibly did not care about what he was doing. Normally I wouldn't have a care in the world about such a thing, but in a customer facing hibachi chef position, you might turn your customers away if you speak quietly and look annoyed at your own cooking tools.

The chef made several mistakes while cooking - he didn't ask my partner how they wanted their steak to be done so it came out as well done rubber.

Dropped an egg on the grill and just let it sit there slowly oozing out for a while, getting kinda burnt on one side, then still used that egg in the fried rice.

Most of the meat was unevenly cooked, overcooked on one side, almost raw on the other.

The fried rice itself contained some of the poorly cooked meat, which downgraded what might have been otherwise decent rice.

The sushi was mostly avocado, barely a hint of fish.

The mushrooms were undercooked, which, I think depending on the mushroom, can cause food poisoning (but don't quote me on that).

Overall, this was a disappointment, very expensive for what it was (we ended up wasting over a hundred dollars here, in total) and was totally dead at 2pm. None of the tricks were done correctly. I don't...

This is a local San Carlos teppanyaki joint where they don't go for pure flamboyancy like Beni Hana but want a great dining experience for the community. Don't get me wrong - it is real teppanyaki where the chef grills in front of you on an island and you get the "show" one way or another. But again, the show isn't what Sakura is for. Typically, the meh side of a teppanyaki restaurant is that everything starts to taste the same, typically grilled and seasoned in a similar fashion on the same grill. And Sakura is no exception. As a matter of fact, very few teppanyakis manage to not suffer that and they cost exorbitant. With that aside, Sakura provides great tasting fried rice, your choice of meat (beef, chicken, lobster, etc) and veggies. The portions are great for the price and you definitely won't leave hungry. The place is well maintained from a cleanliness standpoint (some teppanyakis are just nasty) and watching the chef cook is a joy. Only reason for 4 stars is again the relative uniformity of everything that is being cooked plus I would suggest serving the meat before the fried rice because people typically fill up their bellies with the fried rice appetizer. Will definitely return!

Updating my review - taking it down to 1 star. The point of the place is the Teppanyaki show, especially for kids. Booked a table for kids birthday party but no T - we stared at an empty grill. cooked it all in the back. Excuse was we had too many people 9 - when the next table over had 8. Total lie. So beware. Went tonight with our daughter and had a very good experience. She loved the show, which seemed a bit more enthusiastic than our last visit to Benihana. We got the couples combo dinner plus some nigiri for my daughter. It was a good value and surprisingly quick. Not fancy, but seemed fun. Our food was fine.

Japanese style Resto with either standard table seating or large multi person seating around the grill with your own chef to cook and preform. Tasty food with tons of options. Excellent service too. Prices are competitive but decent. Tucked away in trendy San Carlos on Laurel Street. I ordered the lunch special Bento style called "The Lunchboat" . Came with Salmon, tempura shrimp and veggies, crab roll sushi ,white rice and sashimi slices. Not bad for a $14.99 lunch special. My gf ordered the Hibachi Steak, Shrimp and Veggies. Hers came with fried rice at just under $20 . Family friendly environment.
