When we are in town we will always check out place that positions itself as "Authentic New York Pizza". So when we heard about Bronx we took a drive from our downtown hotel into upper town San Diego sub-urban neighborhood where this hole-in-the-wall pizzeria is located. Once we found a parking spot after 15 min. looking around we noticed there was a line out the door. That's always a good sign. Upon entering had a New York vibe and menu board. Pies are in the front display case so you can instantly see what you are ordering. We went with their 2-slice, soda special for $7 each for the two of us. 2 pepperoni, 1 Porko and 1 cheese (with 2 sodas). They cut slices from the pies in the display case and throw them back into a oven to reheat, similar to Sbarro. We waited what seemed like an eternity for them. Finally got the slices but extremely hot so don't burn yourself getting over-excited to bite into them! Very good parmesan on the table so use it. The pizza---excellent ingredients, nice oily texture as you would expect from a NY slice but after that kind veers off the NY style track. The crust was so-so flavor(probably because they don't have NY water to make the dough) and bottom was a bit too crisp, almost cracker-like. This makes it difficult to fold the slice in half in typical NY fashion. I think was in the oven reheating too long. Recommend they cut back the reheat time by 1 1/2 min.. Overall a solid pizza contender but not NY style so don't kid yourself if that is the expectation in coming to this place. Still very much recommend it as WAY better than any chain. * 2 warnings * 1. They only take cash. 2. Parking is terrible in this area so plan on looking a while for a parking spot where you...

Bronx Pizza in San Diego, CA radiates an unmistakable charm, capturing a rebellious essence while maintaining a neighborhood feel. Upon entering, a warm, local atmosphere envelops you, setting the stage for a laid-back pizza experience. The kitchen buzzes with rock and roll tunes, providing the soundtrack to the culinary assembly line where pizzas and calzones come to life.

The outside to-go window serves as a quick-access point for those in a rush. Customers approach, and the adept staff ensures speedy service without compromising the quality that defines Bronx Pizza. Efficiency meets flavor in a seamless way, reflecting the pizza joint's commitment to satisfying its eager patrons. Whether it’s a whole pie or a calzone or simply a slice, there’s a little something here for everyone.

Beyond the smells and sights permeating from the kitchen, Bronx Pizza pulsates with a contagious energy. It's not just a pizza place; it's a cultural blend, marrying New York's attitude with California's laid-back cool. One step inside and you’re swept away to a subway scene that adds even more charm to the experience

In the expansive pizza landscape, Bronx Pizza stands out not only for its mouthwatering slices and pies, but also for the genuine attitude that transforms each visit into a memorable, no-frills experience, just remember to bring cash. So, whether you're a local seeking a slice or a visitor craving an authentic taste of the Bronx on the West Coast, this spot promises flavorful pizzas and an unapologetic attitude that defines its...

Their quality has significantly gone down over the years especially after pandemic. Pizza is decent enough to eat but NY should be offended. It's a waste of your time standing in line and definitely not worth stopping by an atm for mediocre pizza.

If you are looking for good pizza and a fun time in the same neighborhood go to Sister's Pizza (3 min drive or 10 min walk) - they have a great patio seating area over this place. They also take credit card. Hidden gem in San Diego.

Sisters Pizza 3603 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103

The only SD pizza joint that deserves to claim NY style is REGENTS PIZZERIA! BEST NY pizza in San Diego truly is Regents Pizzeria (15 min drive up the 5 north). They also take credit card and have ample parking. Regents has a ton of local beers on rotation to enjoy your pizza with. Good vibe and fun spot that all locals love. I don’t think the owners are from NY but at least they can replicate NY pizza better.

Regents Pizzeria 4150 Regents Park Row, Ste 100, San Diego, CA 92037

Another pizza spot better is the Friendly too! 9 min drive from this. Get a pizza slice and dirty flat top burger!! Look up their yelp and check out the photos of this small spot. Diner style - Bar stools and can see them cook.

The Friendly 4592 30th St, San...

Edit 09/16/2023 (10 months after the original review below) - Had a few more slices here the other day, and the pizza is still amazing. They are definitely consistent as far as quality. Service is also amazing and very friendly. So, today I tried Pizzeria Luigi in South Park which is supposed to be Bronx’s competitor when it comes to a good NY slice. I’ll leave a more thorough review on their page about my experience, but I just wanna say for anyone looking up reviews for both places because they don’t know where to go, go to Bronx. It’s significantly better. ORIGINAL - As someone born and raised in Jersey, my biggest fear with relocating to SD was that I wouldn’t have good pizza at my disposal. Thank you, Bronx Pizza, I can now move here and have a little taste of home away from home. The pizza was SO good. I ordered one slice of pepperoni (asked for it crispy). It was delicious!!! Cheese to sauce ratio was on point. Crust was really good as well. A few bites into my slice, I went back and ordered two more! Highly recommend this place. My only complaint is they aren’t on DoorDash and only take cash. (There is an ATM there in case you don’t come prepared.)
