Cleaned constantly. Friendly front desk. Comfortable beds. The room is tight, but we were hardly in it - we were off to see the sights of San Diego! The Pronto app for public transportation is easy to use. Two bus pick ups are seconds away. The neighborhood is vibrant. We got groceries at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods-a few minutes away by foot. Kept food in our room fridge. Prepared food in the community kitchen down the hall. Coffee was provided there. Thank you! Other people staying here were friendly and offered travel tips. Security is tight. There are homeless folks about. They never bothered us. They happily talked to each other. There is noise from the highway but earplugs were provided and the air conditioner sound masks it. The reservation warned us and it was not an issue. The place is across from a fire station and it didn’t bother us either. Construction noise was not a problem for us-we were on the other side-but there is a large structure being built next door. There’s a first floor outdoor patio and a top floor outside space. We enjoyed a sunset up top one night. There’s filtered water in the lobby, a vending machine with snacks, a cozy lobby space to meet up with friends and family or relax and read books provided there on a shelf. Daily newspapers are also laid out to view. The next door ramen place is great. Thrift shopping is all along the street with fancier vintage shops a 15 minute walk away. Multiple coffee shops-one two doors away-another a block away. Name brand fast food places like Five Guys and Chipotle are in eye’s view. A new Mexican restaurant with many vegan options is a few bus stops away - Ranchos Cocina. Their are gay pride banners up - featuring people like Anderson Cooper. Lots of hopping night life. I felt safe as an older woman alone - but being aware - even past 11 pm. Highly recommend. Thanks Jasmine and the rest of the staff. Too bad we can’t post pics here. I would have posted the...
Read moreFirst impression from the outside, this hotel resembles a country's consulate with a security gate in front and a strong concrete form. Inside I was warmly greeted, given basic neighborhood information, and directed to my room. Coming and going, my impression is it may serve as a student and residential hotel. Location for public transportation, groceries, dining, neighborhood bars is as good as it gets! My room was perfect for a short stay and one adult and affordable. However on a cool night, the window unit could not warm adequately. I mentioned it at the desk and right away the attendant provided me with a space heater, so I assume that is a usual request in winter. I slept well on the quieter west side, but it is a busy urban neighborhood, so expect an occasional siren or car horn. Partway through my morning shower the water turned cool, but soon became hot again. Because of the efficient size of the room, a full kitchen with tables, a microwave, full sized stove and even dishes and cutlery are in a separate room on the floor, and if the mini fridge in the room proved insufficient there is a full sized one in this kitchen. I would stay again for the location and the...
Read moreWe stayed in a queen bed facing away from the freeway for 4 nights. It was a small, cozy room, just perfect for two people. We were on the 6th floor, where we had access to a shared kitchen.
Check-in process was smooth and easy; we were even able to check-in to our room 2 hours early! Check-out process was also OK; we had to leave early in the morning for a flight, so we just slid our card beneath the front desk counter to check out.
I also want to thank the staff for being so responsive, both before and during our stay. I sent an email a few days before our visit to see if we could leave our luggage behind the desk after our flight (so we could go explore the city) and Kenji replied promptly (same day) to let us know that they were more than happy to do so. When we needed a new set of towels and additional toiletries, the staff quickly replaced them in our room.
If we're ever back in San Diego, we would happily stay here again. It's close by to a lot of busses, one of which we took downtown for a show one night, and is in the heart of an active neighborhood with lots of restaurants and...
