Terrible service from the beginning. We got there at 11:58 and there was no one in the restaurant. The receptionist saw me limping up the ramp, I am semi handicapped, and when he said, "Two?" we relied "No three." He said, "we will wait for the other." Remember, the restaurant was empty and you have a guy in pain standing in front of you. My friend asked me "I wonder why he wont seat us while we wait?" I said, right in front of they (I seriously was not sure if it was a child bearing or non child bearing human and I sure hope I have the proper pronoun) "That's because it would be, well, convenient, for us." They made a "Humff" sound and picked up menus to seat us.

I will spare you the rest of the points detail by detail, but waitress was slow and I literally had to wave my hand back and forth, like a a Paul McCartney concert, for several minutes to get our bill. Like two full minutes of waiving. We had been waiting, with empty plates for at least 15 minutes and it was lunch time. Most people have limited time at lunch, but the staff at this place seemed to more time than concern.

There were four staff within 12 feel of me and not one noticed the wan swaying back and forth with his hands in the air. I think it was by pure accident that one of them noticed they were at work and had customers and saw me.

I am assuming that the owner just doesn't care because this place was PACKED, out the door packed, pre-Covid. Now it was at best 60% thru the entirety of lunch. Also the staff was fully masked if that means anything to you. Can't be too safe.

I will never go there again, even though it was on my list re-covid. Things are...

This place is good, that much is definitely not up for debate. I’m not from the area so I don’t frequent this spot often, but it’s one of those places where you can expect the food to be delicious for a reasonable price which is a god send in an area as expensive as Hillcrest. The service is good, our servers were kind throughout our time there. The decor is chic and the restaurant just feels very homey and inviting. The miso was actually really good, although I’d never eating one like this with all the floaters of god knows what, but it was tasty. For rolls, my friend did a classic crunchy, and I opted for the sushi combo with the eel, rainbow, and crunchy rolls so I could have a variety taste test. We also split a chicken fried rice, and I gotta say this was one of the most satisfying sushi meals I’ve had in a while. The rolls were nothing crazy, but at this price I wasn’t expecting a life changer but I can appreaciate that they were all yummy and didn’t leave me with that “I gotta eat that because I payed for it” feeling when your underwhelmed by a roll. That friend rice was very tasty actually, and both me and friend will definitely be back to try out some more adventurous rolls now that the kitchen had passed our preliminary tests. Come here, and try it yourself because for the price you won’t be getting much better sushi anywhere else in SD. OVERALL DAYGOEATS...

so finally got a chance to write this review, about a month late. 3 of us visiting this location for 1st time, we walk in, they were really slow in clients, i thought it was a perfect time, i hate it when it gets crowded, plenty of empty tables but yet still had to wait 15 minutes, why? who knows.. while standing I saw that there were an unusual amount of people in their kitchen cooking. Finally got our table, and yet again waited more than 10minutes just to get waitress to come by to ask as for drinks.Waited again for waitress to come back to order food, waited again to get out food, this whole time we thought she might be new, who knows?. Once we got our food our plates were cold, so we decided to return them. In between waiting for drinks, refills, getting our 1st plate, and NEW plate, about 4 more tables were filled up with guests and were first to be served their food. something was wrong. weird that their kitchen was full w staff. We completely lost interest in this restaurant and ruined to go to any of the other Sushi deli restaurants chains. Really disappointed. Thank you Sushi Deli for the experience, but We will stick with Ichiban Sushi in Hillcrest. but hey you guys still have plenty of others who don't care about...

This place interested me because of the high reviews and relatively affordable prices. Sweet and spicy karaage fries ($10) were phenomenal. It took me to flavortown and I could feel my brain releasing happy chemicals with each bite. The one downside may have been that because the flavor of this was so strong, the other dishes I ordered felt relatively bland. Teriyaki chicken appetizer ($6.25) - Not that great. In short, I'd describe it as "it's food". Flavor and texture were both very meh. 4x4 sushi combo ($14.50) - Once again, not that great. It has 4 pieces each of the Katie, Keith, Special Spicy Tuna, and Mango Punch rolls and comes with a bowl of miso soup. The rolls were fairly bland and the fish was low quality. The miso soup tasted okay. Overall, I would have given this place 3 stars, but the karaage fries and the low prices bumped it up to 4 stars.
