Chani's Donuts (Shaw-nees) — Restaurant in San Diego

Cute little shop, the employee was very nice and gave us a plain doughnut to sample, which wasn't bad but I thought they would be much better with toppings. These are very mini doughnuts, in fact the ones we received were even smaller than the sample. I almost ordered another dozen, but glad I didn't. I thought I would love them, I wanted to...but sadly I did not. I ordered 3 different kinds (I don't remember the name of each), one was a plain doughnut with a dark chocolate ganache. I didn't like that chocolate part at all and I'm a chocoholic. It had a strong flavor and then an after taste. The other one was cinnamon, sugar and vanilla, and the other had milk chocolate, toffee crumble and butterscotch. Even though they had some topping, they all had an oil taste when you bit into them. We have been here a few times now and the staff is always super friendly. We also got to meet Chani (Shaw-nee) and hear some of her story about her motivation and mission to make delicious allergy-friendly food.

The store is circus themed and when you walk in you're offered a free donut right away - they're delicious and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Think funnel cake, but in mini donuts!

Their menu is easy to read and the topping options can meet anyone's appetite. We like the fruit drizzles (strawberry and raspberry) as well as the maple drizzle.

I like that Chani's offers catering and large orders, as well as fun things like a summer reading challenge that rewards kids with free donuts! The company vibe is family friendly for sure! Hubby and I drove down from Oceanside just to try these! So tired of the dense cake donuts they give us "gluten free " people. These are EXACTLY what you want when you think carnival donuts. Our server was a bit unfriendly or monotone but then met the owner and she's wonderful. A few critiques would be: Make these to order! Stop making ahead of time and serving them cold. WAAYYY better fresh and hot. The topping. It's just ice cream topping drizzled on the donuts. I want an actual glaze. Would be awesome if the could make them a bit bigger to allow for more flavor toppings. Also, funnel cake would be awesome!

Overall, YUMMY donuts and coffee! They have great specials for donuts and coffee and even offer flavor pumps and oatmilk creamer for free!! Cute and cozy atmosphere. Go support her! Need more places like this and want small business owners to succeed. Thank you for creating...
