At "Cross Street Chicken & Beer," double-fried chicken is dredged and battered before being deep-fried, resulting in a crust that is crackly and crispy, no different than other generic Asian-style fried chicken in and around San Diego, such as Phuong Trang's "Garlic Butter Wings", the "Salt & Pepper Wings" from Royal Mandarin, and my personal favorite Asian fried chicken variant in these parts: China 1968 in El Cajon.

I had Cross Street's offering in two varieties: "Seoul Spicy Drumsticks" - featuring a guchujang-derived (Korean red chili paste) sweet and spicy sauce glazed over the chicken "Salt and Pepper Wings" - featuring no glaze, but a generous amount of garlic, jalapenos, onions, salt, and pepper

Of the two, the Salt and Pepper wings have the best overall flavor: the seasoning is addictive -- even if a little bit too salty, but not oversalted enough to be a distraction. The "Seoul Spicy" glaze is a tad too cloyingly sweet for me, even if the other flavors in the sauce were pleasant and characteristic of other Korean dishes. Heat is minimal -- more would help. Neither the meat in the wings or the drumsticks were dry, but the drumsticks expectedly had the best meat texture and mouthfeel by far.

I surprisingly enjoyed the "Corn Cheese," an ultra-rich appetizer featuring sweet corn smothered in melted cheddar, mozzarella, and jack cheeses served on a skillet, sizzling in oil. I finished half of it before realizing each bite was knocking a day or two off of my life expectancy.

All-in-all, a decent chicken spot. I'd...

This place blew my mind. I've been trying a bunch of the convoy restaurants and this place caught me off guard. First of all I've always wanted to come here because of the aesthetic of the restaurant. I've always passed by feeling super curious. When i tried this place i got the chicken sandwich bbq/chipotle style, it's easily the best chicken sandwich I've had. The brioche is slightly sweet to contrast the tanginess of the bbq and the batter of the chicken. It comes with pickles which add a sour element and a semi spicy slaw that kinda cools down the tongue eventually. The bbq sauce is very unique in that its not too sweet or salty but it's tangy and smokey. After the chicken sandwich perplexed my pallet (in a phenomenal way). I took a bite of the soy garlic wings in order to chill out of the amazement i was experiencing... Low and behold i was amazed yet again. Best chicken sandwich and best wings in the same spot!? Now, I'm actually blown away. First of all the breading on the chicken drum was perfect. It was crunchy but not painful on the gums and the chicken was tender and we'll seasoned. The sauce makes you realize how cultural fusion can transform your idea of food. Koreans already are experts in spices. This soy garlic dressing was sweet but not too sweet and not too garlicy. It is soy but some how doesn't overwhelm the pallet with sodium. Idk what to say i loved this place. It almost feels wrong how good their...

OMG. This food is GOOD and plentiful!! We went here on a Tuesday evening. As recommended on Yelp, I joined the wait list when we left from home and the wait time was between 14-24 mins. When we got there, I was the second party on the list. The place was crowded but not too much. Got seated right away. The heaters outside were wonderful as it was chilly.

Now the food - we chose the cheese corn with bacon and the thai chilli chicken wings. More than enough for 2 people. In fact, we took 3 wings home for a 2 am snack :) the cheese corn lives up to its reviews. The corn is sweet, the cheese melting, the spices flavorful and the sizzling just adds to it all.

We asked for the spiciest flavor for chicken wings and the thai chilli was suggested. The wings are quite huge. You get 7 wings per basket. And I really think the chickens come from giant country or something. The bread is wonderfully fried, the thai chilli was a good kind of spicy and the chicken meat was well cooked.

For beer, I chose the mango fruit beer (can't stand beer) and my boyfriend chose the west picnic something. We are the wrong people to discuss beer cz we don't like them much. I just about finished half of mine, despite asking for a taster shot first.

But, I am so coming back here. I would like to try the ramen and other flavors at...
