Unfortunately, I wouldnโt come back here nor can I recommend this KBBQ. I came here last night by myself at 9:19PM on Saturday. The restaurant was very slow, and barely anyone was in there.
My server, Neil B, kept trying to rush me during my dinner to leave. He brought me x2 of everything I ordered (appetizers and meats). When the 4 big plates of meats came, he poured all 3 of them onto the grill without asking me. So once those finished cooking and I take them off to eat, he comes back around, takes the 4th plate of meat sitting on the table and he pours it onto the grill. I had to legit take the cold meat off the grill before it cooks, so I could actually have time to enjoy my meal and all the meat he had placed on the grill prior. The thin sliced meats were also very dry and tasted like plain ground beef (almost like cardboard).
About 50 minutes later into my meal, the waiter (Neil B), places the check on the table (I didnโt even ask for it yet).
This experience was super disappointing. For this to be a restaurant that just recently opened up about a month ago, this is horrible. It is very apparent why the restaurant is super empty on a Saturday night. The employees and staff will be the initial downfall...

Restaurant Review: GEN Korean BBQ House (UTC, San Diego)
My daughter wanted Kalbi (Korean short ribs), so we decided to visit the newly opened GEN Korean BBQ House in UTC for a Saturday lunch. I have been to most of the Korean BBQ places in San Diego with my family, but this was the worst BBQ restaurant I've ever tried in San Diego. As a Korean, I believe the basic cooking methods for the side dishes (Banchan) are fundamentally flawed. Personally, I felt like tearing the word "Korean" off their sign. I cannot understand the current high ratings this restaurant has.
Food Review
1 Chadolbagi (Beef Brisket): I generally consider brisket a cut that's hard to mess up, but this meat was easily crumbly, almost like powder. It seemed like they took a different, cheaper cut of beef and just sliced it thin like brisket. 2 Pork Galbi (Korean-style Pork Ribs): This was completely different from Korean pork galbi. When I finally tried to eat it, it was full of pure, solid fat inside. they cooked a chunk of fat, basted it with sauce, and served it. It was inedible. 3 Steak: While I can't identify the cut precisely, it seemed like the same type of beef as the brisket but cut into steak-like pieces. It was tough and crumbly. 4 Kimchi Fried Rice: LoL. This is not Kimchi Fried Rice. It tasted more like ketchup fried rice. 5 Banchan (Side Dishes): They were strange. It truly seems like the chef does not understand Korean food. 6 Japchae (Glass Noodles): The dish was missing essential ingredients, and raw onions are not supposed to be added to Japchae. 7 Sundubu Jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew): They didn't cook the zucchini with the stew; they added it raw. 8 Vegetable Salad: This was the only edible item.
Service Review
1 Staff Shortage: There was a significant lack of staff. โฆ No matter how hard we tried to make eye contact, no one came to the table. They don't have a call button like many Korean restaurants do. โฆ Our grill sat empty for over 15 minutes. We weren't ordering much because the food was bad; we just wanted to try one last item before deciding to cut our losses and stop eating. โฆ After a long wait, the pork we finally ordered was the huge chunk of fat I mentioned above. 2 Tipping: They set the tip options at 18%, 22%, and 25%. I simply cannot understand how they justify an 18% tip. We absolutely did not feel like we received any service worth that amount.

Our waiter was Howe for the evening, and the service took years for us to get more rounds in, and it felt like he would purposely walk by our table super fast so he wouldnโt have to talk to us. He was also incredibly rude at the end when we were trying to pay and he kept talking down at me when I asked a simple question. He also wouldnโt write anything down and had to constantly ask what we asked for but then still give us the wrong plates. Once we did finally put in a round, it would took extremely long to get to our table and it still had to cook. If I knew We were going to be waiting at least 15-20 min inbetween each round, and the meat quality was also really poor. I would have just driven to convoy for KBBQ, and other place would have been better...
